After answering a few questions with an assistant, I was asked to pay NZ$10 and proceed to talk to a technician. My card was declined, so I went through the process again. This time I was asked to pay NZ$2. I thought this seemed suspicious so checked the askexpertonline.com site on Trustpilot. I seemed to be legit, so I entered my credit card details. The page loading was then interrupted by Guardio with a warning about fraud. I checked my account and found there was a NZ$70 payment pending with the "YOUR HOME REPAIR QNA 0800 452 621 US" description. It seems that I have been phished and I have cancelled by credit card... I called my bank to discuss my concerns. While I was on the phone, the company attempted to put through a payment for a further NZ$100. My bank is treating it as fraud and will be in touch with the police. ### ★☆☆☆☆ BEWARE - Stuart Sacks · 2026-08-25 BEWARE - YOU ASK A QUESTION AND YOU GET SIGNED UP FOR TWO YEARS OF RECURRING BILLING AT $65.00 PER MONTH. NOBODY TELLS YOU THIS OR SENDS YOU AN AGREEMENT THAT TELLS YOU. IF YOU TRY TO CANCEL THE UNWANTED SUBSCRIPTION YOU GET A RUN AROUND OF A MOST ABSURD AND DIFFICULT PROCESS. Complete fraud. First $65 charge that hit our VISA my wife called them and dropped the name of our NC Attorney General’s office, and they quickly cancelled the charge. Now, 2 and 3 months later they pulled the same trick in consecutive months, so once again, we called, threatened to turn it over to NC authorities, and guess what… They once again buckled and promised they would “cancel “ our account. Time will tell if they try the same fraud again. But please, if you ever get a message from Ask an Expert, delete it, and never go back to these fraudsters. Saw we were charged $56 dollars on our credit card statement, so called askanexpert to cancel the subscription. According to "jeff," they could cancel the subscription for $50 or we could cancel online and be charged six-month subscription, which we don't want or need. When I told "Jeff" that this was a shady business practice and that we just want to cancel the subscription with no extra charges, he said he would have his supervisor call us back. Supervisor "Jeff" then calls us back, says the same thing as regular "Jeff" and then hangs up on us.
