A Disappointing and Unacceptable…
A Disappointing and Unacceptable Experience with Priceline and Agoda — Buyer Beware! My experience with Priceline and Agoda has been extremely frustrating, disappointing, and completely unacceptable. I would think twice before booking through either company again. I booked two hotel reservations through Priceline, and the booking information indicated that breakfast was included. I made my reservations based on that advertised benefit and expected the companies involved to honor what was presented when I booked. However, when my reservations were transferred to Agoda for handling, I discovered that the hotel’s system showed room-only bookings, with no breakfast included. Suddenly, a benefit clearly indicated in my original booking information had become my problem to resolve. What followed was an exhausting series of back-and-forth communications with Agoda. Instead of promptly resolving the discrepancy and honoring the original booking terms, Agoda repeatedly suggested that I cancel my reservations. Why should I have to cancel my hotel bookings because of a discrepancy between the companies handling my reservation? I made my purchase based on the information presented to me. It should not be my responsibility to absorb the inconvenience and uncertainty created by a booking arrangement I had no control over. After repeatedly insisting that Agoda honor the breakfast benefit represented in my original bookings, Agoda eventually offered a form of reimbursement. But there was another catch: I would have to pay for breakfast myself, submit the hotel's official receipts and supporting documentation, and then receive reimbursement in Agoda Cash that would expire after just six months. Let that sink in. I was expected to pay out of pocket for something I believed was already included in my booking, navigate additional documentation and verification requirements, and accept restricted platform credit instead of an actual monetary refund. Agoda Cash is not the same as getting my money back. I have no intention of booking through Agoda again after this experience. A credit that expires in six months and can only be used through a company I no longer wish to patronize has little practical value to me. Calling this a reimbursement does not make it a satisfactory resolution. Ultimately, after all the emails, explanations, uncertainty, and wasted time, I had no reasonable choice but to cancel both reservations and pursue a direct booking with the hotel under a clearly stated arrangement that included breakfast. The hotel, to its credit, worked with me to find a practical alternative. It is deeply disappointing that resolving this matter required so much effort on my part when the original booking information should have made the terms clear from the beginning. My complaint is not simply about breakfast. It is about transparency, accountability, and honoring the expectations created when a customer makes a purchase. When two companies are involved in handling a reservation, customers should not be left caught between them, forced to chase answers, repeatedly defend what they booked, and accept an expiring store credit as the price of resolution. I cannot speak for every customer's experience, but based on mine, I have lost confidence in the Priceline–Agoda booking arrangement. I would urge other travelers to read their booking confirmations carefully, save screenshots of every advertised benefit, and verify directly with the hotel that those benefits are actually recorded in its system before relying on them. My advice to fellow travelers: proceed with extreme caution when booking through Priceline if your reservation will be handled by Agoda. Make sure every promised benefit is confirmed in writing, and understand exactly what you will receive if something goes wrong. This experience has cost me far more than the inconvenience of arranging breakfast. It has cost these companies my trust and future business. That is a consequence entirely avoidable through clear communication, proper handling of reservations, and a genuine commitment to customer satisfaction. I would not want another traveler to go through the same frustrating ordeal.
