Booking the direct train from Alicante to Valencia seemed easy , paid at that point. Within 1 hour of booking got an email saying direct train not available and had to either accept an alternate route that takes 1 hour longer or get refund, as we have to get to Valencia on that day we had no choice but accept the alternative! Not what we wanted.
