Litfad light fitting (Macaron) : don't try this at home!
Bought a light fitting (Macaron). Having placed an order, not received the product after four weeks and only then read the awful reviews, I was getting twitchy about ever receiving anything. HOWEVER.... ...tracking info arrived by email and, barring Royal Mail losing it for a while, the light fittings arrived soon after. Good = exactly as described and shown on the website. Installed and working nicely. Their support people resonded really fast when contacted by email. Less Good = shipped direct from mainland China by a company that is based in Kowloon HK; so delivery is not quick and the tracking only appears once the item is on the flight to the UK. Bad = there is NO WAY this light fitting would meet UK (or anyone elses?) wiring standards! A dodgy earthing method and no "loop" terminals (actually no terminals at all). It arrives flat-packed with all the mechanical bits you need to install it but none of the electrical bits bar a length of loose wire. Lots of wires to thread and join up to connect it all up. I needed a soldering iron and a heat shrink gun plus heatshrink tubing and terminal blocks to make a safe installation. If you don't have the skills and tools to do it yourself and call an electrician to do it, any decent electrician will refuse to do it. Personally, I enjoyed the challenge and it was a lot more fun than just bolting something to the ceiling!! .. and it works, and my wife really likes it. ....and then they tried to persuade me to up the review to 4* in return for a discount and free gift and also claimed their products meet "international standards"...later emailing that they meet "Chinese standards" (irrelevant in EU / UK) and providing a photo showing a genuinely dangerous internal wiring connection method. Ho hum! 😂
