U1 - my experience and a story of missed opportunities

My experience with the U1 so far I won't repeat the general pros and cons of tool changer printers. Instead, here's my experience with the U1 after using it for a while. Overall, the U1 offers excellent value for the price. Pros: - Fast delivery. - Good interaction with the community. - Reliable print quality and solid build quality. - Well-designed touchscreen UI. - Useful features like manual bed leveling in addition to automatic heated bed leveling. - Fluidd integration is a big plus. - AI monitoring has improved significantly since the first firmware releases and now works reliably for me. Cons / Issues / Missed opportunities: 1. Print Head Contact Issue This is my biggest problem so far. One of my print heads frequently reports a pogo pin contact error. I've already followed the official troubleshooting guide several times, including cleaning the pogo pins with isopropyl alcohol and a lint-free cloth, but the issue remains. The print head aligns and docks perfectly every time, so the problem appears to be electrical rather than mechanical (print head PCB, carriage board or pogo pin interface). At this point I hope Snapmaker will simply replace the affected print head instead of asking me to repeat and document the same troubleshooting steps again. 2. Hardware & Concept The overall concept is great, but several design decisions leave obvious potential unused. - The filament path isn't ideal for feeding directly from filament dryers or dry boxes, and the bending angles are not great for brittle materials. Lets not speak about the offered "inhouse" solution with the polymaker boxes ;) - The lack of quick-swap nozzles is probably the biggest missed opportunity. A tool changer is almost the perfect platform for such a system. An updated hotend should be a priority. - The optional enclosure feels incomplete without an integrated chamber heater. - Filament loading/unloading is only semi-automatic, many actions still require the touchscreen, and there is no filament rewind. - Native support for closed filament systems (ACE Pro, AMS, CFS, etc.) would be a huge upgrade. The community has already shown what's possible—please make it official. - The camera frame rate is still very low. 3. Software The software still feels unfinished in several areas. Examples include connection drops, limited printer controls, limited filament profiles, bed boundary handling, and a mobile app that is mainly useful for monitoring. Connections are often lost after reopening the app, and overall responsiveness still feels slow. The U1 is no longer a brand-new printer. I would like to see community improvements integrated much faster into the official software instead of remaining workarounds. 4. Accessories & Spare Parts There is still a lot of untapped potential. - Hardened nozzles are not included, although the default profiles already assume them. - Many filament spools don't fit the supplied spool holders. - Why can't hardened nozzles be purchased individually? - The optional enclosure is expensive, not well integrated, and still doesn't include chamber heating. - The filament voucher promotion is difficult to use because it requires a separate order with additional shipping costs. Final Thoughts Despite the criticism, I genuinely like the U1. The hardware is solid, the print quality is excellent, and it has all the ingredients to become one of the best tool changer printers in this price range. What currently holds it back is the ecosystem: software maturity, upgrade strategy, spare parts availability, and several design decisions that could be improved relatively easily. I'd really appreciate a response from the Snapmaker team, especially regarding the print head issue and whether features like quick-swap nozzles, improved filament management and a better integrated enclosure are on the roadmap.
