Another Seamless Trip With Amber and UME
As always, Amber and her team did a fantastic job. This time I took a more hands‑on approach with planning and had them help with booking trains and tours in Seoul. I do wish they offered tour options in Busan and some of the smaller villages, but I was able to find things through Viator and TripAdvisor for those areas.
My Seoul guide, Sally, went above and beyond. She shared history, culture, food, and even suggested great add‑ons like the Lotte World Tower, which I hadn’t planned on visiting. I really appreciated her taking me to the viral Netflix mung bean pancake spot—definitely not easy to navigate if you’re not local or don’t speak Korean.
Mingnan, the driver and main contact for my tour, was just as great. He reached out well in advance on WhatsApp, kept me updated throughout, and even helped with my VAT refund at the airport. From the moment I arrived to the moment I left, he was there. I especially appreciated him coordinating all the transfers—always the trickiest and priciest part of travel, especially with how far Korean airports are from the city.

Japan Managed and Changes in Favor
We took Ume Travel in Oct. 2024 to go to Japan. We researched and knew that transfer and transport were going to be a challenge so we wanted a tour company that could handle alot of that for us.
We worked with a wonderful lady named Amber and we continued to work with her after Japan. I'm planning Korea for 2026 with her. She made us a custom itinerary to fit our needs and wants. She continuously updated it as needed up until we went on the tour.
We liked that we had private transfers via private car, escorted to trains, and even dropped off by tour guides to hotels. Only issues were we weren't told in advance on some of the transfers that were not included. Such as in Kyoto there was no transfer from the station to the hotel, but it was only a 3 block walk. Or there was no transfer from hotel to the airport at the end of the trip, which we ended up just booking an Uber.
The included tours were great! Things didn't always go as planned. We had a city tour and the boat ride was not operating, so the tour guide took us around Shibuya instead. In Osaka the ferris wheel was not operating so the guide took me to try famous dumplings. And the driver that was going to take us to Mt. Fuji on an overcast and rainy day didn't lie and told us we weren't going to see the Mountain. So instead he drove us around other parts of the city. We went to Meji Shrine, Harajuku, Shinjuku, etc.
We also had all our hotels booked through UME. They were 3-4 star hotels but they are better quality than some of the 5 star hotels in other places. The hotel in Hiroshima remains one of my favorites, thanks to its layout, high floors, and city views. In Osaka and and Kanazawa we had Tokyu Hotels which included laundry within the rooms, which is great and important because you need to pack light to travel in Japan.
Overall Japan is great place to go, you cannot do everything, but we were able to do so much with the hotels and transfers managed for us. Can't wait for our next adventure with UME!
