Misrepresented as vintage
Misrepresented as vintage, structurally unsound, undisclosed damage — request for resolution I purchased 8 "vintage" chairs from Esperance Gallery to pair with an antique table, at a cost of nearly $2,000 including shipping from NY to Chicago. On arrival, the delivery person (a Chicago neighbor) immediately noted the chairs showed far more damage than the listing photos indicated. Since returning to Chicago after summer, I've used the chairs a handful of times — and two have already broken while I had guests over. On closer inspection, every single chair has been glued back together at structural joints. Sitting back against the chair backs causes them to give way. None of this repair history or structural compromise was disclosed in the listing, which described the chairs as being in good vintage condition. I've collected vintage furniture for years and understand that some wear is part of the territory — I did not expect showroom-perfect pieces for this price. But I did expect functional, honestly represented furniture, not chairs that are unsafe to sit in. A neighbor of mine, an interior designer who regularly shops Chairish, told me he's never encountered anything like this from a vendor on the platform. I'm not looking for a fight — I'm looking for a fair resolution. Given the significant shipping cost already sunk into these chairs, I'm requesting either a replacement with chairs that match the condition described, or a refund/return arrangement that accounts for the transport costs involved. I'm happy to provide photos of the glued joints and breakage on request.
