Wondershare Dr.Fone

Free trial claim is grossly misleading AND software doesn't work as promised

The website suggests there is a free 3-day trial and has a button that says "try for free" but the download opens a page that actually prompted me to enter my information and charged Paypal $130 which Wondershare refuses to refund even though I determined within a couple of hours that the software could not recover any more images on my phone than those I could access with no help from the recycle bin. Despite the exchange of multiple messages with Wondershare, the company insists that their website was transparent. I disagree. I clicked on a button that says "Try for free" and gave them my information in good faith (after checking Trustpilot and seeing that they had a generally acceptable rating!). Furthermore, contacting customer service was (intentionally?) difficult. The chatbot on the page does not help at all, and the contact page requires one to be able to select a topic from a drop-down menu that it populates (and at least once, it included no options, so I couldn't use it all) and to upload an image (and won't accept a PDF), when you wouldn't necessarily have a relevant image to send. I couldn't easily find an email address anywhere on the site, and eventually found the address with a Google search and relevant terms. You shouldn't have to do an hour of detective work to file a customer service complaint. Update: The request that I contact them here is a joke. I've exchanged at least 10 messages with the customer service thus far, and gotten canned (AI?) responses that do little to mitigate my dissatisfaction or address my arguments. Update: After a rather lengthy exchange of messages with the customer service (in which I was never sure if I was talking to humans or an AI-agent), wondershare asked me to reinstall the software and send a screenshot of the "error message" and the log files. I complied with this request as best as I was able (there was no "error message" per se; the software just didn't retrieve and deleted messages that weren't visible without it, and there were no log files), and they have refunded all but $5 of the sum I was originally charged. Based on this outcome, I am adding one star to my rating, but I would certainly advise them to reconsider the phrasing and advertising on their website.
