PET-CF Filament Review

PET-CF Filament Review I found PET-CF very difficult to print with My main issues were: • The filament is extremely brittle, even after thorough drying. It can break inside the feed path and is not reliable for unattended or overnight printing. • PET-CF requires extensive drying and moisture management. Even when properly dried, I found it remained brittle and prone to breakage. • The filament is very stiff and causes feeding issues in the QIDI BOX. The AMS feed rate and printer consumption rate did not always remain synchronised, resulting in excess filament gathering and tangling inside the box. • Surface quality is relatively rough compared to other materials and often requires additional sanding or polishing. The carbon fibre content is also highly abrasive, necessitating constant monitoring Overall, PET-CF required significantly more preparation, monitoring, maintenance, and post-processing than expected. While it can produce strong parts, I found it too brittle, moisture-sensitive, and unreliable for regular use. Following your reply, I would like to clarify that I was not using a cardboard spool. I was using the original high-temperature plastic spool supplied by QIDI with the PET-CF filament. The QIDI BOX was also running in drying mode continuously during printing, so moisture does not appear to be the primary cause of the feeding issue. To investigate further, I suspended the original PET-CF spool inside the QIDI BOX using the standard spool adapter, allowing it to rotate more freely. Since making this change, the filament gathering and tangling issue appears to have been resolved. So far, the setup behaves similarly to using the external spool holder on the Plus4, except the spool remains inside the QIDI BOX. I will continue testing and monitoring whether the problem returns during longer prints. If the issue remains resolved, it may indicate that spool resistance and filament stiffness were contributing factors. Thank you again for your assistance. I will keep you updated on the results. Best regards,
