Hardware OK, software bad

Had an SPH installed, for 6kW, with battery. Electrically, it seems to work, but there is often a 30W draw from the grid for some reason, even when there is plenty of power. The inverter mounting rails/heatsinks get very hot - too hot to touch - during periods of high power generation. Improving their thermal design would be good too (or adding a fan). The software is very bad, the instructions are poor, and configuration requires you to scour the internet to find someone with a similar device (passwords that are not stated anywhere, instructions that don't match the behaviour of the device). Key problems include: 1) there is no way to record the data *directly from the device*, so you are reliant on their servers, which are not particularly reliable, and I doubt they will persist over the life of the inverter. 2) The datalogger *does not log* - it simply sends an upload to the server, and if this is missed for any reason, the data is lost. This behaviour is extremely poor design - it should cache the data and then upload it. 3) sometimes the numbers for energy distribution don't make sense. For example, according to their web app, my battery has discharged much more than it ever charged, which is impossible. 4) Battery data is lost once the day is finished - there doesn't seem to be any way to access historical battery data, again making the data logger useless They could fix this with a software upgrade, but I don't think that they will. They heavily promote their app, which is useless. I'm trying to figure out if the system is performing as expected, but I have to manually type out all the figures, many of which are missing due to network troubles. the user interface via the web for configuring the inverter (How will I configure it if they take the server offline? No idea!) is badly described/laid out, and several parameters don't seem to take effect (e.g. battery charge/discharge rate). There are timers for off-peak electricity, and these do sort of work, but it requires careful configuration to not dump your battery into high-power loads by accident. I'm currently working around the software issues by having my own recorder query their server via their API. This is not a great solution, as again it depends on that server being up, and having recieved the data. If you care about the monitoring or logging, beyond a casual look, growatt is not for you.
