Why I Cancelled My Platinum Membership After Years of Loyalty
I was a Platinum member of Road Runner Sports for several years because I genuinely believed in this company. Unfortunately, over time I watched the value of the membership steadily decline while prices continued to increase. The benefits that once made Road Runner Sports stand out have gradually disappeared, which is why I cancelled my Platinum membership today. Road Runner Sports promotes itself as a family-owned business that puts customers first, but my experience has been the exact opposite. Instead of investing in customer satisfaction, it appears that cost-cutting has become the primary focus. One of the biggest disappointments has been the switch to GLS as their preferred shipping carrier. In the past, my orders would arrive within just a few days using reliable shipping services like FedEx and UPS. Since switching to GLS, the delivery experience has become frustrating and unreliable. On multiple occasions, GLS claimed that a delivery attempt had been made even though I was home all day and no one ever came to my door. Whether these were inaccurate scans or operational issues, the result was the same: unnecessary delays and an extremely poor customer experience. I specifically asked Road Runner Sports not to use GLS for my future orders because of these repeated problems. Despite my request, my subsequent order was shipped through GLS again, demonstrating that customer feedback was either ignored or simply not valued. Another concern is the structure of the rewards program. While it offers credits toward future purchases, it also encourages customers to keep spending in order to realize the value of rewards they've already earned. What once felt like a loyalty program now feels more like a marketing strategy designed to keep customers continuously making another purchase. After years of watching prices rise, membership benefits shrink, shipping quality decline, and customer concerns go unaddressed, I finally decided it was time to end my relationship with Road Runner Sports. Customer loyalty is earned through value, reliability, and respect—not by continually reducing service while asking customers to pay more. When a company prioritizes short-term cost savings over long-term customer satisfaction, it shouldn't be surprised when loyal customers choose to take their business elsewhere. I hope Road Runner Sports takes these concerns seriously. I was once one of your biggest supporters, but today I became another former customer who simply expected better.
