No longer honest pricing
For the first time, I am extremely disappointed in my recent experience with Bellhop moving. This is the third time I have used the movers, the first time being in August 2021 (unload a truck at one place only which only took one hour) and the second in August 2023 (moving from one apartment complex to another which only took two hours start to finish). As advertised on the homepage of their website, both of those times, I scanned the QR Code at beginning and end and was only charged for the amount of time my move took. Seeing as this is still advertised and I again scanned the QR code (plus the mover called the boss to make sure it worked since I didn't have great service) and the job only took one hour of the estimated three. I was quoted at $177/hour. So, naturally, I was very frustrated when I saw that I was charged for the full $531 for ONE HOUR of work. Supposedly, they have a new policy that customers must pay a three hour minimum for full service moves (when its two places and includes a truck, which I did not use their truck, I used a U-Haul and they only had to travel 0.5 miles as it was a transfer from an apartment to a townhouse in the same community). I have only ever booked labor only with the second time including two places and still only paid for the two hours it took. The first time in August 2021 took one hour and that's all I was charged. Supposedly this new policy is because they already paid their movers the three-hour minimum which was never made clear in the booking process. Even if it was it completely disregards the way that it is advertised on their website. See the wording: our lead Bellhop Pro will get in touch on the day of your service to let you know your team is on the way. Your service will officially begin when your movers arrive and scan your unique QR code. They’ll also scan the QR code to mark the end of your move, so you don’t pay for a minute more than the time needed to complete the job. Despite emphasizing this point and calling out how unethical it is to make this fall on the customer if they want to pay their movers a minimum and that they basically stole money from me by charging two hours for services I didn't use, the best they could do after several back and forth was give me back a $100 refund of the $354 extra I was charged. Do not trust the honest pricing. Unfortunately that is not the case anymore! The only reason I still give two stars is because of the movers themselves. The three gentlemen that came and did the move were very kind, professional, efficient and took great care of my belongings! It is one of the reasons I returned to bellhop for their services. I am extremely disappointed to learn that their claim of honest/fair pricing is no longer true. Because of that, I will not be using them again as I basically feel like they have stolen money from me.
