Misleading coverage wording and an extremely unprofessional handling of a customer complaint
My experience with Dansk Tandforsikring has been deeply disappointing and has seriously damaged my trust in the company. My employer provides this insurance, and the policy states that there is one free annual examination and cleaning covered per insurance year. I booked exactly that: a routine dental check-up and cleaning. During the appointment, my dentist performed diagnostic X-rays because they were necessary as part of the examination to check for cavities. The invoice clearly states that the bitewing X-rays were taken "ifm. diagnostisk grundundersøgelse" (in connection with the diagnostic examination). When I submitted the claim, Dansk Tandforsikring refused to reimburse the full invoice, claiming that only specific treatment codes (1112 and 1301) count towards the free examination and cleaning, while the X-rays were treated separately and applied against my deductible. The problem is that this limitation is not clearly communicated in the policy wording. The policy promises one annual examination and cleaning covered at 100%, but does not explain that diagnostic procedures required by the dentist as part of that examination may still result in the customer paying a deductible. What was even more disappointing was the way my complaint was handled. I repeatedly asked for my claim to be reconsidered and for the matter to be escalated through the proper complaints process. Instead of addressing my concerns, the replies ignored my requests and repeated the same interpretation of the policy. The response also included the fact that the person replying was the CEO of the company, as if that somehow settled the matter. A person's title does not replace a proper review of a contractual dispute. The CEO then stated that they would reconsider the wording of their policy documents in the future to avoid misunderstandings. This was effectively an acknowledgement that the current wording can create confusion, but it did nothing to resolve my existing claim under the policy I actually signed. The entire experience felt far more like dealing with an inexperienced company trying to defend a position than with a professional and trustworthy insurance provider. The communication was dismissive, the complaint process was not properly addressed, and the focus seemed to be on changing future wording rather than taking responsibility for the ambiguity in the current policy. An insurance company should provide clarity, transparency and confidence to its customers.
