Paypal

I recently signed up for PayPal Credit…

I recently signed up for PayPal Credit as you could set up a direct debit to automatically pay your balance at the end of the month. The chaos in setting up the direct debit has been unbelievable. The first direct debit was entered into the system but didn’t work so I deleted it. When a second was set up by PayPal staff, it was going to pay on the wrong date so it too was cancelled. On the 1 August (yesterday) with no Direct debits functioning I went to pay my balance outstanding but couldn’t because the PayPal Credit account messaged that the full balance had already been scheduled. I went to the direct debit section which said the direct debit was active which it could not have been. It also said “we’re working on it”. To avoid late payment penalties I paid the minimum under the direction of PayPal staff. This morning I get email notification that this minimum payment had been rejected. The email explained that “If you have already paid your minimum payment for this statement, no late payment fee will be applied to your account, and we won't report it to the Credit Reference Agencies”. Unfortunately, with no direct debit and attempts to pay directly being rejected, I suspect PayPal credit will indeed try to impose fees and interest. I have registered a complaint with PayPal which itself was not a breeze and there are 2 issues to be aware of. The complaint section does not give you sufficient characters in the “complaint” and “what would you like us to do” boxes to give a sufficient account. Secondly, at least 3 times whilst in the process of trying to lodge the complaint, I was logged out of my account and lost the partially completed complaint. I’d like to conclude that my experience has been nothing more sinister than utter incompetence and you don’t get the courtesy of an acknowledgement when you lodge your complaint. Finally, I keep getting notifications from PayPal that I have a message. It seems that every time you open the message centre, it generates a new message and notifies you. It’s self perpetuating and ridiculous.
