United Overseas Bank

Going to cancel my card

When I was overseas in April, I filled the wrong Singapore arrival website which charged me $148. I called UOB to cancel my card and block the transaction. The UOB Call Centre person checked my account and told me that no money has been deducted yet. He assured me that my card will be blocked. Since then, my UOB nightmare began. Despite me making a police report and going to the UOB branch 3 times to make sure that this has been settled, they called to inform me that the website I submitted to was a legitimate website and as such, I was not ‘scammed’ so they would not be returning the money deducted from this merchant. In the first place I had already asked the CC man to block all transactions so how did this get through? Secondly, I was tricked into filling the form in the wrong website (It was 1st on the google list and had the words ‘Singapore arrival form’). As it was my first time filling this form online, I had no idea what the actual website looked like. Wasn’t I scammed? If my card had been stolen and I called to cancel it, no transactions can go through, even if the card is used to purchase goods from legitimate retailers. I don’t see how my experience is any different. I am extremely distressed and disappointed as I have done everything possible to ensure this transaction would not go through and yet it did. I honestly don’t know what else I could have done.
