My Rear kit hub motor started making a…
While riding my bike with the Rear kit hub motor started making an odd noise then a few hours later the battery and control module began to smoke. It was a dry warm day with no precipitation. I immediately disconnected the battery and removed it from the bike as I was worried it might explode. I then rode the bike home as a regular heavier bike with the rear wheel kit still installed. I then checked the controller and battery to find the pins melted. Once i was home i removed the entire kit from the bike which took approximately 1 hr and returned my bike to original as I still need it to commute. I contacted 100g and the confirmed the problem was the contoller and the control module on top of the battery. They said they would send the parts to repair. I asked for a new kit as I don't trust the original hub after this incident. I even offered to pay the difference for the larger rear motor but was told they could only replace the parts affected. The parts took approximately 2 weeks to arrive. When originally ordering this kit, it comes from China and takes several months to get to Canada. Then the install is approximately 1hr if everything goes well. It's alot of time to wait for the order, install then un-install if there is an issue. I have the new parts but haven't re-installed as I have lost faith in the product. 100g says that moisture got into the control module but I'm not sure how they could know this when I was riding the bike in Canada and they are diagnosing from China by a picture I sent of the module. The day I was riding was in May, it was hot and dry. When it was working the kit worked great until it didn't. It was also the second kit I purchased from 100g. The first kit was a 250kw rear kit and I will say it worked perfectly but just not powerful enough for my size at 230lbs with gear on the bike. I ordered the 350kw rear on the 2nd order and again it is still not powerful enough for me. When going up a small incline and using the thumb throttle the bike will not make it up the hill unless I'm peddling. This is fine as I wanted it as an assist anyways and it was my mistake for not originally ordering the 500kw to start on those days after work when I'm just bagged and feeling lazy. Something to consider if you do decide to go with this kit. Overall not a terrible experience butpersonally I will buy my next kit or ebike locally so if there's an issue i can have it fixed, back up and riding in days not weeks.
