Easeus Todo PCTrans simply doesn't work as they say
I wanted to transfer data from my old Windows 10 PC to my new Windows 11 PC and decided to use the Easeus TODO PCTrans Professional software as I had used this company before for other products. I purchased an ethernet cross over cable so that I could use the direct transfer and followed the instructions provided, both on the website and on screen. The first attempt copying just my applications got to 11% complete and just hung, even though the time to complete ticked down to zero and then went up and ticked down again to zero. This went on for about an hour, so cancelled and tried just 1 simple app, same result. Tried again with just User accounts, same result. Contacted Easeus support and told to use the backup method of transfer via standalone disk. This did work to a degree: 1) I have just 1 account on the source PC and one on the target PC so assumed the user data and setup would be moved to the user logged into on the target PC - Wrong - it created a new user on the target PC that I was unable to log in to. It didn't ask me where I wanted the information, Copied the user data manually to the correct user account. 2) I have about 20 apps on my old PC including MS Office 2016. All apps were transferred but only a couple actually worked. Some had to re-installed, MSOffice got very confused with licensing, tried reinstalling, that failed with MS error code. Fortunately Microsoft have a Trouble Shooter to download that fixed the confusion and I just re-entered the old license, after having purchased a new license, just in case. 3) I keep all my data (photos, music etc) on a different partition (D: drive) on the old PC. I assumed that this software would have been able to ask me where the data was to go, or create another D drive partition - WRONG - after a number of hours backing up to the free standing disk, the restore on the destination PC hung again at 11% complete, no error message or ask me what to do with the data. I had to use File Explorer ro copy file to disk and restore with File explorer on the new PC. I am a retired computer professional and managed to get the job done in 2.5 days. My PC is in constant use for external activities so need it to be available all the time. This software is no good unless you have expert knowledge, and frankly it just doesn't do what they say it does.
