Top-Tier Quality: Looks and Feels Like an Official Special Edition!
I bought the GameCube-style shell for the Switch 2 Pro Controller in Amazon, and the final look is absolutely stunning—just like in the photos. This is my second eXtremeRate mod (after doing a Joy-Con shell swap), and the manufacturing tolerances and precise fit are top-notch. Installation & Build Process: Difficulty: It’s straightforward if you take your time. If you have prior experience with electronics, it’s a breeze. Even for beginners, following their official YouTube video guide step-by-step makes it completely manageable. • Tip on Heat: A heat gun is highly recommended to safely lift the top plate (a hairdryer might work, but a heat gun is safer and cleaner). I opted not to re-glue the top plate so I can easily swap shells again in the future. • Pro Tip on Haptic Motor Cables & Removal: Be extremely careful with the delicate motor cables. Instead of pulling near the wires, use fine tweezers on the tiny notches at the base of the connector. Gently wobble it side-to-side, and it will slide out with very little force. Also, note that the motors do not come out attached to the button assembly, so take extra care during disassembly. Constructive Feedback & Suggestions for eXtremeRate: • Missing Purple R Button: For the GameCube theme, the R shoulder button should be purple to match the iconic original layout. Leaving it stock slightly hurts the retrowave aesthetics. Since standalone purple R buttons aren't sold separately, this theme really needs to include it—even if it increases the total kit price slightly. • Future Color Wishlist: I’d instant-buy an Atomic Purple or Atomic Orange shell with GameCube accents! • Button Options: It would be incredible if eXtremeRate offered button sets separately at a fair price, or included two variants in the box (solid color vs. clear/translucent). Final Verdict: An incredible, high-quality custom shell that transforms the controller. I’m already planning to buy a second controller to mod as soon as a atomic purple or orange translucent GameCube option with the corrected piropos R button drops! 5/5 stars ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
