Unethical Billing & Contract Practices – Debt Collection Without Consent
I had a very troubling experience with ViewQwest. After completing my 24-month broadband contract (fully paid), ViewQwest unilaterally scheduled a new subscription in their system without my knowledge or consent. I did not update my credit card, nor did I agree to any recontract. Despite this, I started receiving payment reminders for a new plan I never signed up for. Eventually, they terminated my service, which I assumed was the end of the issue. But shockingly, I later received a letter from a debt collection agency (Singapore Commercial Credit Bureau) demanding payment (Case No. 2510004084) with interest and threats of publishing the debt information all for a contract I had clearly rejected and never used. If that wasn’t enough, ViewQwest then reactivated my broadband service without my request, likely in an attempt to justify billing me for a recontracted term I never agreed to. I’ve since had to dispute this in writing, involve consumer regulators, and protect myself from potential credit damage, all because of their internal system’s "auto-renewal" practices and lack of consent protocols. I strongly caution others considering ViewQwest to read the fine print and monitor your account very closely. In my case, the billing and contract practices have been nothing short of aggressive, misleading, and damaging to consumer trust.
