Pristine Auction

Protected by the Rules, Not Guided by Customer Service

Until fairly recently, I was a 100% fan of Pristine Auctions. I've spent thousands of dollars with them this year alone and have won some fantastic items. I've also had some disappointments, but in many cases those were on me for not doing enough research before bidding. What changed my opinion has been my experience with their mystery packs, particularly the last few I've purchased. Let me be clear: I understand exactly how mystery packs work. I know about floors and ceilings. I understand the odds. I know that chasing a few grail items among hundreds of packs is part of the game. Pristine is very careful with its descriptions, and I have no issue with the fact that there are winners and losers in these products. My issue is with how little value seems to be placed in the losing packs. The last few mystery packs I received were, in my opinion, completely worthless. I'm not exaggerating when I say there was nothing inside that I would have wanted to keep, display, collect, or even attempt to resell. There is a difference between opening a mystery pack and feeling disappointed because you didn't hit a big win, and opening one and feeling like you received the absolute minimum possible value. Unfortunately, that's how I felt. To be fair, Pristine fulfilled exactly what was promised. They were within the rules, within the terms, and within the guarantees advertised. I willingly took the risk and accept responsibility for that. But just because something meets the minimum requirements doesn't mean it creates a good customer experience. What disappoints me most is that Pristine could easily make these products feel less punishing for customers who don't hit. A few extra dollars of value in the losing packs would go a long way toward building goodwill and encouraging repeat purchases. Instead, my experience left me feeling like the company is focused on doing the bare minimum required rather than creating a positive experience for all customers. Will I buy another mystery pack from Pristine? Absolutely not. In fact, I don't plan to spend another dollar with a company that seems comfortable delivering the minimum possible value simply because the fine print allows it. Had the losing packs been just a little more generous, I likely would have continued spending thousands more over time. Instead, the experience convinced me to take my business elsewhere. And before Pristine responds by pointing to the odds, disclaimers, guarantees, and fine print, let me say this: I understand all of that. The issue isn't whether the packs were technically compliant with the advertised terms. The issue is whether the company chooses to treat customers fairly when they lose. In my experience, the answer was no. That's my opinion as someone who spent a significant amount of money with Pristine and genuinely wanted to keep being a customer.
