Title: Failed to Protect Me and My Children I want to share my experience with the family court regarding my situation as a survivor of domestic abuse and coercive control. Despite providing evidence of abuse and ongoing risk to my children, I felt ignored and dismissed throughout the process. Court case numbers are not linked, so your abuser even when found guilty, can go back to family court as if it was the first time, so even though my ex was given a non molestation order for beating me up badly in front of my young children causing life changing injuries, he could return to court again and again, as if it was the first time. My abuser was allowed to continue controlling my life, and my children were placed in situations that compromised their safety. The court’s decisions left me feeling victim-blamed and unsupported, and my concerns about my children’s welfare were not taken seriously. I hope that by sharing my experience, others will understand the importance of seeking independent legal advice and advocacy, and that the family court system reflects on how it handles cases involving domestic abuse and coercive control.
