The Exact Refund I Questioned Was Simply Deposited

I am adding this update with specific dates to make the timeline clear. On August 6, I contacted Trip.com regarding the cancellation and refund of my flight tickets and raised concerns about how the process was being handled. When I initially requested the cancellation, Trip.com indicated that they would communicate with the airline on my behalf and look into the matter. I also asked what cancellation penalties and other fees would be deducted. However, as of August 9, I still have not received a clear answer to these questions. Most importantly, before confirming the cancellation, I repeatedly asked how much I could expect to receive as a refund. Each time, I was told that even an estimated refund amount could not be provided because confirmation from the airline was required first. However, immediately after I confirmed the cancellation on August 6, I received an email stating: “Estimated refund amount: KRW 304,400.” This was exactly the issue I questioned. If even an estimated amount could not be provided without confirmation from the airline, how was the system able to generate a specific estimated refund amount of KRW 304,400 immediately after I confirmed the cancellation? I raised this issue and asked Trip.com for an explanation. Trip.com then publicly responded to my Trustpilot review, stating: “Please be assured that we will check it further and reach out to you directly. Your feedback is highly valued, and we are taking it seriously.” Based on this response, I expected Trip.com to properly investigate the issue I had raised and contact me directly with an explanation. However, on August 7, without any further explanation or direct communication, KRW 304,400 was simply deposited into my account. What makes this even more difficult to understand is that this is exactly the same amount as the “estimated refund amount” of KRW 304,400 that was provided immediately after I submitted the cancellation request. This is the very issue I had been questioning from the beginning. Trip.com publicly stated that they would “check it further and reach out to me directly.” Yet instead of receiving an explanation, the exact estimated refund amount I had questioned was simply deposited into my account. How am I supposed to understand this? I was not simply asking Trip.com to process my refund as quickly as possible. I wanted an explanation as to why I was repeatedly told that even an estimated refund amount could not be provided before cancellation, yet a specific amount became available immediately after I confirmed an irreversible cancellation. Since I specifically raised this concern, I expected Trip.com to investigate it and explain what had happened. Most importantly, Trip.com gave me the impression that they would assist me from the customer’s perspective, look into the matter further, and contact me directly. That is why I waited for their communication and explanation. However, as of August 9, I still have not received the direct communication or explanation that Trip.com publicly stated they would provide. The only thing I received was the KRW 304,400 refund deposited on August 7. I am extremely disappointed with the way this has been handled. If Trip.com publicly states that they will “check it further and reach out directly,” I believe they should at least explain what they investigated and what they found, rather than simply depositing the estimated refund amount without any explanation. As of August 9, I am still waiting for Trip.com to contact me directly, as they stated they would in their response to my review, and provide a clear explanation regarding the concerns I raised.

Misleading Refund Information Before Cancellation

I am extremely disappointed with how my cancellation request was handled. First of all, this was not a cancellation due to a simple change of mind. This trip was something I had planned for a long time as a special journey with my father. However, before our departure date of September 13, 2026, my father developed serious eye problems and told me he was no longer able to travel. I considered traveling alone, but this trip was meant to be shared with him, so I ultimately decided to cancel it. Although my father's condition was the reason for the cancellation, it was not a situation where I felt I could reasonably submit medical documentation to request an exceptional refund. Therefore, I proceeded with the standard cancellation process. Before making my final decision, I repeatedly asked whether you could provide even an estimated refund amount. I was repeatedly told that this was impossible because the airline first had to review the cancellation request before any refund amount could be calculated. However, immediately after I submitted the cancellation request, I received an email stating: "Estimated refund amount: KRW 304,400." When I questioned this inconsistency, I was told that the system automatically calculates an estimated refund amount only after the cancellation request has been submitted. This explanation does not make sense to me. If the airline must first review the cancellation request before any refund amount can be determined, how was your system able to generate an estimated refund amount immediately after submission? Was this estimate actually provided by Singapore Airlines, or was it generated internally by your own system? If it was generated internally, why was I repeatedly told that no estimate could be provided before I made an irreversible cancellation decision? My departure date was September 13, 2026, so there was still time before the trip. I was not asking for the final refund amount—I simply wanted an estimated figure so I could make an informed decision about whether cancelling was the best option. Instead, I was required to make an irreversible decision without that information, only to receive an estimated refund amount immediately afterward. This process was inconsistent, confusing, and lacked transparency. I respectfully request a clear explanation of how the estimated refund amount was calculated and why this information could not be shared with me before I submitted my cancellation request.
