IDShield

They make cancelling the service complicated

I signed up for IDShield a couple of months ago. While fairly useful and comprehensive, I realized I didn't need it and tried to cancel. IDShield makes cancellation deliberately difficult. The website offers no cancellation option. Instead, cancellation instructions are hidden in the FAQ behind a U.S.-only location selector, effectively excluding Canadian users. The company continues charging your account unless you actively cancel through obscure methods. I found the FAQ via Google search, which claimed I could cancel by email. After sending the required email with no confirmation of receipt, I called to follow up. The representative said they never received it. When transferred to a supervisor, he suddenly offered to cancel over the phone, contradicting what I'd just been told. When I requested email confirmation, he hesitantly agreed, suggesting it wasn't automatic. This is likely illegal. In Canada, the AODA and Accessible Canada Act require websites to meet WCAG 2.0 Level AA standards. Restricting cancellation information by geography violates accessibility requirements. In the U.S., multiple state auto-renewal laws require easy, accessible, and conspicuous cancellation methods. It looks clear to me that IDShield deliberately obscures its cancellation process to discourage customers from leaving. This isn't a design flaw, it's intentional.
