I was extremely disappointed with my experience. My ring originally retailed for over $10,000, and the GIA-certified center diamond alone had been valued much higher than what it ultimately sold for. The auction ended at $1,180.64, and after Worthy’s 18% fee, my payout was only $968.12. Throughout the process I was encouraged to lower my reserve price, and after the auction I found communication to be very limited. I expected much better customer service after my item sold. I understand that resale values can be very different from retail prices, but if you’re considering using Worthy, make sure you fully understand the fees, have realistic expectations about the current diamond resale market, and know exactly what your net payout could be before deciding to sell. That review tells future customers what happened without making claims you can’t substantiate. * Why did the bidding stop so close to the reserve? * Were all 298 interested buyers notified of the extension? * Is there any post-auction offer process if additional buyers were interested? * Is the 18% fee ever negotiable?
