Booking partner declined refund — Agoda admitted communication failure, but action was slow
I had a family emergency — my father was unexpectedly admitted to the ICU — and requested cancellation of one room from a two-room booking before the stay began. I provided medical documentation immediately. It then took a full week of follow-ups, automated replies, and unrelated messages before Agoda confirmed that the supplier had already declined the request days earlier — they simply hadn't told me. Their own support team acknowledged this in writing during a live chat: that I should have been informed promptly and wasn't. I understand non-refundable policies and don't dispute that part. My issue is the handling: a decision sat unactioned and uncommunicated for a week during a genuine emergency, leaving me unable to make other arrangements in time. The eventual resolution was a 10% AgodaCash credit (store credit, not a refund), valid for 6 months only. If you're booking with Agoda, be aware that "we'll review it" can mean radio silence for a week even after a decision has been made. I'd recommend booking directly with hotels where possible, especially for anything with emergency flexibility needs. Booking ID available on request for verification.
