I rarely leave negative reviews, but my experience with Paychex Retirement Services has been incredibly disappointing. I am the beneficiary of my late father's 401(k), and what should have been a straightforward process has turned into weeks of frustration. I have submitted and resubmitted documents multiple times, only to be repeatedly told that paperwork was missing. Later, another representative located the very documents I had already sent. The information provided by representatives has been inconsistent from one call to the next. I have been told to wait 10 business days, then instructed to upload documents again, and most recently told on June 29, 2026, that my file was finally complete, expedited, and that I should allow another 48 hours. No family should have to spend this much time fighting to receive benefits after the loss of a loved one. The lack of communication, repeated contradictory information, and failure to provide consistent updates have made an already difficult situation far more stressful than it needed to be. I sincerely hope Paychex reviews its beneficiary claim process so other families are not forced to go through the same experience.
