Responsive customer service and easy to deal with. Ended up costing more in the end.
Firstly, I'm happy with the product offerings New Town Spares provides, especially for older hard to find items. When I placed my original order for three 14TB drives, I was notified they were sold out. At first I didn't realize I had ordered "used" drives but New Town Spares reached out to let me know they had a batch of NEW drives they could ship out for an additional $79 total. For an additional $79, I was excited to be receiving NEW drives. Once they arrived, I installed them into my Zettlab D6 Ultra NAS unit configured with RAID 5. After 3 months of use, one of the drives completely failed. Even though it was configured with RAID 5, I lost all my data even after I installed the replacement drive and rebuilt the array. Still investigating this. Zettlabs determined the drive which failed had 3 years of usage recorded on it. I relayed the findings to New Town Spares and they immediately went to work to source a replacement drive. It took a while but they were able to source a NEW drive. Would I buy from them again? Maybe, if it's a specific hard to find item, but I will check the items more thoroughly before using them. On the positive side, customer service is responsive and easy to work with. I'm very pleased with this part of my experience. On the downside, they shipped out a "used / 3 year old drive" when it should have been new. Secondly after sourcing the replacement drive, I was told it would cost an additional $215 because it was "newly acquired inventory". Since I really needed a matching drive, I paid the additional cost. The additional cost was $23 lower than what I originally paid for the "NEW/used" drive that failed. This made me feel like I paid for 4 and only received 3.
