Ultiself

Ultiself ignored 4 written cancellation requests — here's what finally worked

Posting this as a warning and a guide, since a lot of people seem to hit the same wall with this app (Ultiself, habit/self-improvement app, billed by Ultiself Corporation, Florida). Timeline: • 4 Aug: Sent a clear written cancellation request to their info email • Same day: Got a reply ignoring the request, asking me to "confirm my email" (it was in the thread) and pitching a discounted plan instead. • 4 Aug, later: Confirmed my email, repeated the cancellation request. Response: another retention offer ("one-time $10 payment", free courses, VIP access). Still no cancellation. • 4 Aug, third request: Explicitly declined all offers, demanded written confirmation. • 6 Aug: They replied with a response that was word-for-word identical to their very first email, same script, asking for my email address again, same discount offer. Clearly an automated retention loop. What finally worked: 1. Called my bank, told them I'd revoked authorization for recurring payments to this merchant in writing, and asked them to block future charges. 2. Sent one final email stating the cancellation was legally effective from my first request, that my bank was instructed to block payments, and that further charges would be disputed and reported to the European Consumer Centre. After that, they suddenly processed the cancellation. If you're stuck in the same loop: don't keep arguing with the autoresponder. Your written cancellation request is legally effective when you send it (at least under EU consumer law), you don't need their permission. Go through your bank and the app store/website instead, and keep every email as evidence for a chargeback.
