What Should Have Been Convenient Became a Frustrating Mess

I spent several days comparing eyewear sites before deciding to order from Jollynova, and what should have been a convenient online purchase turned into one of the most frustrating shopping experiences I have had in quite some time. I carefully went through their men’s and unisex frames one by one, comparing measurements, styles, and proportions against glasses I already own so I could narrow my order down to four pairs I felt confident about. Even after the 40% discount, the total was still close to $500, so this was not a casual or insignificant purchase. While I was building the order, the code SPECIAL40 was accepted by the website and correctly applied a 40% discount. The problem began when I tried to actually pay. The discount would show in the cart, but checkout repeatedly produced an error. Thinking perhaps the order size was the issue, I removed one pair and tried again. Same problem. I removed another pair and tried again. Same problem. Since the site has no “save for later” function, the two frames I removed were simply gone, along with all the time I had spent deciding on them. Customer service then told me SPECIAL40 could not be used on a first order, even though their own website had already accepted and displayed it. They said first orders normally receive 10%, offered me 20%, and after I objected increased the offer to 30%. I reluctantly agreed to the 30% compromise. The code they then gave me for that, CP30, did not work either. When I asked that the matter be escalated beyond the same customer service representative, I continued receiving replies from the same person. The lens questions were equally frustrating. I repeatedly asked about anti-reflective coating, scratch resistance, UV protection, water and oil resistance, oleophobic or superhydrophobic coatings, and whether they offered a wider progressive corridor. I kept receiving vague answers that did not actually address what I was asking. Eventually I was told that all lenses are scratch resistant and that their Progressive Anti-Blue + Anti-Glare 1.57 Mid-Index lens also has oil and water resistance, but it took multiple emails to get even that level of clarification. The final solution offered was that I should pay the full price first and then contact them afterward so they could refund 30%. By that point, the issue was no longer about a discount one way or another. It was about trust. Why would I feel comfortable paying the full amount upfront and simply hoping that the promised refund would arrive promptly and without some new condition, fee, or complication? I would never have had those concerns if the ordering process and customer service had inspired confidence from the beginning. The irony is that the entire purpose of ordering prescription glasses online is convenience. Instead, I spent an unreasonable amount of time troubleshooting discount codes, rebuilding my cart, rechecking frames, repeating the same questions, and trying to get clear answers from customer service. I ultimately decided not to place the order. There may be perfectly satisfied Jollynova customers, and I am not suggesting otherwise. I can only review the experience I personally had. Based on that experience, I would strongly advise prospective customers to make sure every discount, lens option, and final price is completely clear before submitting payment. For me, the process simply became too unreliable to justify trusting them with an order worth several hundred dollars.
