This was a different kind of holiday experience for me but on reflection, it worked quite well, using WhatsApp, Uber taxis and locally guided trips. My only difficulties occurred at transport hubs, trying to find the right place to be. With regard to taxis, you can get ‘hijacked’ by other taxi drivers when looking confused as happened to me! It’s important to get into only the assigned pre-booked vehicle. Luckily, IndoGusto send good information via WhatsApp and give good timing information. I was disappointed that in Lisbon my hotel was a 15-minute taxi ride away at the end of a trip and was in an unfamiliar area. I would have preferred to be nearer the centre of the city and within walking distance of my accommodation. The meeting points worked well in Lisbon and Porto. You’re never with the same group and I didn’t meet anyone I recognised from the same hotels. It was a solo holiday but with organised trips, which gives good access to tourist hotspots. Overall it worked quite well but your mobile phone is vital!
