Domestika's Food Styling Courses: All Props, No Substance haven't found a single food styling…
I haven't found a single food styling course on Domestika that's truly worth taking. It's embarrassing. Half of the course is nothing but endless talk about the so-called expert's influences, inspirations, and creative references. What disappoints me most is that their entire creative process seems to rely on other people's work. They photograph a dish from a restaurant that they didn't even cook, then build their entire art direction around the props they bought. It's unbelievable that a food styling course teaches you that the secret is simply to buy a blue plate, spoon some mashed potatoes onto it, add a few leaves, edible flowers, peppercorns, and a few drops of olive oil. And that's supposed to be food styling? I find it incredibly superficial. Many of these instructors don't even know how to cook, yet they present themselves as experts. The worst part is that you have to pay for the course before you know what's actually in it. You buy it, realize it's disappointing, and by then you're stuck with it.
