The school has not been able to teach to its curriculum. It's a wild card on what will be taught every class. If you are comfortable with your child going to a class and chit chat on random topics, that may be fine. The teachers themselves are not bad. The management of the curriculum is horrible. I have discussed specifically on what should be the next lessons to be taught in advance with the school (because they can not keep track of this themselves), and when we joined the lessons, the teacher still planned to teach something else. Even worse, when I asked them to teach the planned lessons, they could not even find the lessons. And I received the lesson plans from them! The curriculum lesson plan on the website does not match with they tell you they will teach, and the teacher does not teach what they told you they will teach either. It's a complete madhouse. Beware, they will not issue a refund despite their mistakes. There are better places to go learn mandarin without the headaches and the overhead. It's literally taking SO MUCH time to just get the basics right with them, and they still get it wrong every time. They have no idea what should be taught every class.
Excellent customer service and more importantly excellent teachers! My daughter loves studying with Liu Qian and Diana Zhang. They are fantastic at keeping her interest.
Having studied Mandarin for a number of years, I've tried many different methods and websites. So, I consider myself well placed to make this recommendation. I find studying the HSK program through Instant Mandarin to suit me the best for a number of reasons including easy access to a variety of quality teachers; easy to use website platform for booking lessons and accessing study material and highly responsive admin support staff. In addition, their pricing structure is probably one of the most cost effective on the market. The standard lesson time is 25 minutes, but you can easily double up classes etc if you prefer longer lessons. That said I find the 25-minute sessions more than adequate, particularly when coupled with some additional private study/homework. In short, I have no hesitation in recommending Instant Mandarin to anyone considering learning Chinese.
InstantMandarin is amazing! I've tried loads of ways to learn Mandarin and InstantMandarin is the BEST!!! It has provided a great service(excellent learning material and patient and professional teachers) to develop my skills in Mandarin!!! With its help, I'm confident with my learning objective. Anyone who's considering to learn Mandarin should give a try.
I love Instant Mandarin. It is perfect for language learners that have a lot on the go. The 25 minute sessions are a great motivator to wake up a little earlier and get in your mandarin practice. The teachers are so fun, caring and experts in their consisent teaching method delivered through the platform. If ever I find myself free in the morning or evening, I know I can book a quick lesson and get any fantastic teacher knowing exactly what lesson I am working on. Thanks for this program that has transformed my mandarin practice!!!
My two kids 8 yr and 5 yr olds have been attending Instant Mandarin classes for a year now. My younger one joined as a beginner although she attended pure chinese kindergarten classes prior to starting at Instant Mandarin. The foundation at instant mandarin that she received is what she needed. She wasn’t picking up much in her chinese kindergarten. She became very fond of Pia laoshi who is extremely kind and gentle. Her teaching method is highly effective. She also customized the lessons for my daughter and added pinyin with her rugular program. My 8 year old on the other hand joined at the intermediate level. He was good at reading and writing since he was in primary school taking native level chinese. But he was not a confident speaker. There was a huge gap between his reading and his speaking skills. We mainly joined to practice his speaking . And I couldn’t be happier! Hes become a confident speaker. His chineseteacher in school also mentioned that he loves to speak in chinese and loves to participate in class. We like every teacher that we took class with at Instant Mandarin. They are all gentle and engaging. What I love is the kids don’t need to be engaged with cartoons and flashing animation. They are kept engaged by just speaking and non flashing simpler images and games. The 25 mins fly by quickly and my kids are never bored. They have no problem even if I book daily sessions for them. For both my kids, its been a great experience! The support team is also very responsive and willing the customize the class according to the students needs. I see my kids attending IM for many years. Ive learnt so much myself that I am planning to start taking adult classes myself. Keep up the great work Instant Mandarin teachers and support team!
My two girls have been taking classes with Instant Mandarin for three months now and I am very happy with their progress their teachers are very well trained and patience. My 7yo is very active and likes to talk during the lesson the teacher is able to hold her attentions and taught her lots of vocabulary. My 11yo who learned Chinese for about a years loves her teacher who was able to get her to talk and express herself in Chinese for the whole 25 minutes. Sometime the teacher will give them homework and they both have no complaints and work on it when we don't have lessons. Instant Mandarin also offers so many wonderful programs for young learner such as YCT, Story and conversation. My two kids was looking forward to start the story program. If you would like to take your Chinese to the next level Instant Mandarin would be the way to go.
InstantMandarin.com helped turn the disaster of the COVID-19 pandemic into the best thing ever for my son's Mandarin language ability. InstantMandarin is the real deal. We've taken more than 350 Mandarin language lessons through InstantMandarin over the last year, and have been so impressed with the focus, dedication, and professionalism of its teachers.
My son was enrolled in a 50/50 Mandarin Immersion program starting in the first grade. When COVID-19 shut down his school midway through second grade and left me homeschooling for a year and a half, I didn't know what to do at first. That's when I found InstantMandarin.com. Affordable with outstanding instructors, InstantMandarin enabled us to have daily lessons in Mandarin speaking and Chinese character reading. My son's skills has blossomed with this daily exposure to enthusiastic, native Mandarin speakers. He can now converse freely and confidently using a wide variety of Mandarin vocabulary, as well as reading Chinese characters fluidly.
Now that COVID-19 is on the wane my son has rejoined a Mandarin Immersion school and is at the top of his class in his Mandarin speaking and reading. We are so appreciative for the contributions InstantMandarin has made to my son's education, and we continue taking daily lessons to push his abilities further. I encourage other parents who are serious about raising bilingual children to give InstantMandarin's lessons a try, every day if possible. Kids are smart, and tend to learn things that they do day after day.
full disclosure: InstantMandarin gave me nothing for this review, we are simply very happy customers. Thanks to all of InstantMandarin's teaching staff for their persistence and dedication!
I have been learning Mandarin with Instant Mandarin for around three months now and I am definitely seeing an extremely positive impact on my skills in the language. Things got off to an excellent start with a trial lesson followed by receiving a detailed learning plan. Since then I have been having 3 x 25 minute lessons a week. The two teachers I have worked with so far have both been excellent - very encouraging, patient and able to challenge me in a very positive way to stretch my range of expression as well as improve my reading and pronunciation. I have also had excellent support from the Instant Mandarin's customer service, making sure that there were lesson slots available for me in my time zone. The platform Instant Mandarin uses for the lessons and lesson booking is very accessible and reliable. I am very happy to have found Instant Mandarin and am sure that this system will help me push on much further towards fluency in this wonderful language. I would certainly recommend this company to any Mandarin learners.
I have used Instant Mandarin for the last few months and am extremely happy with them. Here are a few of the things I like about them:
> Very flexible lesson booking system
> Lessons are only 25 minutes (just right!)
> Great teachers
> Great lesson structure
> Very reasonable prices
> Great customer service
Very happy to recommend!
Instant Mandarin provides very useful and practical lessons that take into account my needs, and I’ve thoroughly enjoyed my lessons and the friendly tutors. I’ve bee learning Chinese online with them for a while now as I am working in China, at the beginning I was just a beginner but I’ve learnt so much with my tutors, and they’ve given me confidence to be able to use my Chinese in daily life and settle down here. Even though I am in China, I am extremely busy so the online format and flexibility of the lessons is just right for me. Great lessons, great content, great tutors, keep it going!
My son & I have been taking lessons for about a year now. We have tried other Chinese learning platforms in the past. But what stands out for Instant Mandarin are the following:
1. The lessons are clear and organized. There is a short homework at the end that is very helpful for extra practice.
2. The teachers are always on time, very professional & explain things really well. They adapt and adjust quickly to your level.
3. The customer service is very helpful & prompt in responding to any questions or concerns.
4. The prices are very affordable, especially if you get the bigger packages.
5. The website is easy to navigate. Their cancellation policy is also very flexible just in case something comes up.
6. The 25-minute lessons are perfect in the sense that it is very easy to fit in our schedule and just enough that we learn new words each time without being too overwhelmed.
My daughter has been studying Chinese with Instant Mandarin for almost a year now. She's always enjoyed the lessons right from the trial. We've tried several teachers and she loves them all. I'm grateful for Instant Mandarin's admin who uses English and is very responsive. I'm also thankful for the flexibility in terms of learning schedule and method. We are using Instant Mandarin as a supplement for my daughter to practise speaking Mandarin and it's been a great help.
Enjoying my Online Mandarin Lessons with Instant Mandarin
I started learning Mandarin with Instant Mandarin as an absolute beginner. I did a lot of research into different online Mandarin schools before finally picking Instant Mandarin. I really like this school for the following reasons:
- 1-1 language instruction: The lessons are private (just you and the teacher), which means that the teacher goes according to your pace and aptitude. I feel that private lessons are particularly important for Mandarin, which is a tonal language.
- Great motivating teacher: My teacher is excellent. She always keeps me motivated and having each lesson is so much fun. She is quick to answer any question that I may have, and I always feel like I am learning a lot in every lesson.
- Great Curriculum so far : Chinese can seem like such an intimidating language for people with no experience in Asian languages. The curriculum that I have been learning was designed in such a way that you learn it very step-wise, in manageable amounts. I never felt overwhelmed
- Reasonable price: Mandarin typically takes a long time to learn, so it was great that Instant Mandarin is so affordable.
- Great Admin Support: The Admin is very prompt and helpful. The language learning platform is also good and I have not had any problems with it crashing or working poorly
- Progress: I made a lot of measurable progress in just a few months of studying a few hours a day + 3 Chinese lessons a week
There are some points to keep in mind:
- I think this is likely the same for any Mandarin classes (in person or online), but you may need to do extra work in certain areas, depending on your needs, ex:
- I wanted to learn to write Chinese characters, so I worked on that on my own (it’s not really possible to teach in an online class, but there are many books and online resources that you can use to learn)
- for pinyin pronunciation, I supplemented what was taught in class with other free online resources, as I found that I needed more practice
- I wanted more reading and writing practice, so I bought graded readers and also used a Mandarin textbook and workbook to review what I had already learned in class (NOTE: I actually found the explanations in the textbook much more confusing and unclear than what I was taught in class, so I was glad I was attending Instant Mandarin classes)
Overall point: Although there are many things that you can learn on your own, I couldn’t have gotten this far without regular classes at Instant Mandarin. I am looking forward to continuing and learning more with my teacher :)
I am very happy with my lessons at instant mandarin. The teachers are amazing and friendly and if I am ever struggling they do their very best to help. The lessons are very good and I feel like with every lesson my mandarin is improving. I cannot wait to continue learning!
I am very happy and satisfied with the Mandarin classes through Instant Mandarin. The method adapts to my needs, if I want to learn faster or if I want to go slower, if the time is enough or if I want to increase the hours of learning. Also the teachers are very professional. I am very happy with the teacher Carol Wu because she has helped me understand and move faster with each lesson. I highly recommend this institution for all people from any continent.
I'm very happy with the lessons at Instant Mandarin, I've learnt a lot, the teachers are amazing and take their time with you, the lessons are structured and each lesson seems to build from the next, so it feels like I'm improving all the time. It's extremely flexible and very easy for me to book lessons online. I can't wait to learn more and I couldn't recommend it more.
