The tax deduction date for most taxpayers under a GIRO instalment plan falls on the 6th of every month, of which this might be the case for you. For IRAS tax payments ipaymy advises to schedule for a payout date AT LEAST 5 working days before the respective tax deduction date as it is stated on IRAS website they require up to 5 working days to reconcile all payments. Your scheduled charge date was December 30 and a payout date of December 31. Because the New Year public holiday fell on January 1, this likely did not provide for the minimum 5 business days required for IRAS to reconcile and post your payment onto your tax account and hence, might have triggered the double deduction from IRAS. We do recommend contacting IRAS direct to confirm if this is the case and how it can be prevented in the future with your particular tax arrangement.
