Carriage of bicycles …
Due to a change of plan on our cycle touring trip we needed a flight to sri lanka from southern india , air indigos site states they will take cycles ( for extra cost ) on there flights , we booked a flight from chennai to jaffna then phoned there call centre to add the bikes which they did and confirmed there would be no problems , on arrival at chennai airport i went to the check in desk to be told they would not take bicycles on this route as the aeroplane is too small even though we dismantled the bikes and made them only slightly larger than a suitcase but they would not be swayed , i explained the call centre told us we would have be problem but they just were not interested, they changed our flight to colombo and we managed to transport our bikes on this flight , causing us un necessary time and expense getting from colombo to jaffna to resume our cycle tour . they need to make it plain that bicycles will not be carried on certain routes instead of refusing at the check in desk , i will make sure the cycle touring community are aware of this policy and wont be using indigo again, I would like to add that the staff at chennai tried there best to get our bikes on the original flight but were over ruled by some faceless jobsworth in an office somewhere and would like to say thanks to them for the help they gave us,
