Okay overall, but the censorship on their forum is annoying
I have been a customer of Sophie and Toffee for around four years and I like them enough to stay subscribed to several of their boxes, so please take that as context for the rest of my post. I think their box themes are generally nice, their molds are good quality and shop orders are generally decent quality, too, and arrive on time. Recently their value for money has gone down noticeably, especially on molds and products in the shop, but also on what used to be the Premium Elves Box. Anyway, my biggest gripe with Sophie and Toffee is how they moderate and censor their Facebook group. There are relatively frequent problems with shipping and somewhat less frequent problems with quality control on some of their subscription boxes and if people want to discuss those on the official Facebook group the posts get removed immediately. This feels really untrustworthy and makes it hard to know if a problem you experience is just yours or if there is an actual issue with the product. They also announced and gave out an award to group members for “positivity”, which biases the group posts even more and makes it more difficult to discuss the things that aren’t so great. Finally, I am not happy with how they approach their special sales as it feels deceptive. I was planning to buy a relatively expensive item when they announced a 20% sale for a holiday, so I decided to wait for the sale, expecting to be able to buy the item for 20% less than its non-sale price. However, they sneakily raised the base price for the duration of the sale, so that the price minus 20% during the sale was the same as the previous non-sale price. I decided to not buy the item and to stop caring about their sales. They also always have several other questionable sale offers in their store. E.g. for their calendar mold it says “77% sale” and shows a reduction from $30.43 to $6.98 on the overview page, but when you click on it, the item that cost $30.43 before, is now $26.00, reduced by less than $4, and they just added a different item that cost $6.98. Overall, nice store, nice molds, good products, but some of their business practices don’t feel honest and trustworthy.
