Beware of Evolve and booking.com
I booked a vacation home in Oak Island, NC for a Saturday through Monday rental using Booking.com. Booking.com was the marketing company and took my information and payment which was to be submitted to a company called Evolve (property manager). I also submitted my driver’s license front and back. Yes, this was my first booking through their platform and will be my LAST. I had to drive 3 hours to get to the rental. It appeared everything had gone through, and I received confirmation from BOTH booking.com and Evolve. When we arrived after a three hour drive, our reservation had been cancelled. The charge went through on my credit card yet the reason they gave me was lack of payment!!! I pleaded with them to let me into the property. I had two small grandchildren with me and this was to be a Father’s Day celebration of 5 adults and the two children. The maximum was 7 adults. I finally got through to the owner of the property who said, “We have to know who is in our property at all times, and we don’t have that information. Excuse me but booking.com did NOT ask for that information and neither did evolve.com!! They would not provide the code to the door. I became afraid thinking I was scammed for $656. I cancelled my credit card. I was credited that amount, but I just want others to be aware of booking.com and evolve practices. I still do not understand what happened. By the time I arrived to the rental, my reservation was cancelled. Never again booking.com nor Evolve!!! You ruined what was to be a fun weekend.
