Overall they got the job done

Overall they got the job done. All our stuff arrived moving from Austin, Texas to Reno, Nevada. Pro's Excellent communication regarding pickup and drop off. Pickup was perfectly timed on the move out date. Our driver was excellent in providing updates even when unforseen (truck was leaking coolant) delays happen. The movers who packed the big stuff were friendly and respectful. The people unloading were pretty friendly and respectful. Cons. Payment system for deposit seems sketchy. Sure they are trying to keep costs down but man it feels like low security / never see your money again. Terribly uncomfortable start to a big expensive move. I also compared the cost of PODS versus movers. PODS qouted me $4700 (Load myself) versus $4200 if someone moved it for us. I asked PODS why do people perfer this method? Because we are flexable on delivery dates if you want to change your mind. I thought I need it there on this date for my family I might as well get the mover option. We were qouted 800 Cubic feet after a virtual walk through on the phone with $5 per cubic ft for overage for our 2 bed 2 bath apartment we lived in for 8 months. We only got the basics since we knew we'd be moving long distance soon. Seems resonable. As we got closer to our date I started to purge some bigger stuff like TV stand, other things that take up ackward amounts of space that we can buy at the destination. We also vaccum packed all of our clothing into containers saving 80% of space. No hanging pictures, no plants. At the end of the pack up we were over our original space by 25%! 800 qouted --> 1000 cubic feet actual. This translate from $4200 to $5200 bill after purging excessive items we never planned to. I can only imagine we would have went up to an additonal 200 cubic feet had we kept the original qouted items putting our bill at probably $6200. This tells me they are incentivized to under Bid you as the customer and shock you at the arrival. If we assume that it means their estimate is off by 50%. Can you imagine getting a qoute for a fence and after it's built hearing sorry it's gonna be 50% more money for my mess up. Unexceptable. 10% is resonable, 20% is pushing it. Honestly should have just went with the PODS and added movers to help with the PODS, or move it yourself. If you do go this route just plan for 20-40% more than the qoute and you'll be good. Oh, the people at the transfer warehouse don't care how they stack your items. We had 30 home depot same medium sized storage containers and another 35 of a large size. Did they stack the similar size? The original pick up guys did. Once it arrived at the destination it was just a mess with everything. I could count on one hand how many containers were stacked in a nice order. Pretty embrassing. I also labelled everything in particular all I cared about was the fragile containers which had multiple labels on it. Guess what, the fragile box was on the very bottom supporting everything above it touching the roof. 7+ containers = boxes. I will say nothing was broken due to our packing efforts but I was just shocked and stressed as I saw this. The last straw. Delivery. We took 2 weeks from the move out date to move our 7 month old and 2 dogs across the country. When did our stuff arrive? 2 weeks later than our first date available for pickup. What was the real kicker? Being in our new house for 1 week before I reached out and ask is our stuff on the way? I haven't heard anything. They said it's being loaded on the truck as we speak. Not a big deal until they said it will be 1 week before it arrives to you since we have numerous stops along the way. Wait, you mean to tell me you are able to give me 1 weeks notice before delivery but yet couldn't time is closer to the original acceptance date? We spent two weeks having to purchase doubles of things while we waited. Yes it's expected based on the original contract and if we were charged the qoute I would have agreed they kept to the contract. The fact we were terribly under bid, had to fork up extra money, and it took 2 weeks to arrive I am deeply dissappointed and would recommend PODS instead. Save yourself the stress if you are moving with a family.
