Shakedown marketing tactics
It seems shaking people down for more money is part of their core business model. Bought some logo from them many years ago. In February 2023 they contacted me, saying: You downloaded a logo from our website. Actually, there’s a client who is interested in copyrighting the same logo symbol. But I’m holding it for you in case you want us to transfer the copyright ownership to you. I did answer saying what they can go do with themselves since I wasn't using the logo anymore anyways. Two weeks ago, they're at it again, different dude this time: Kindly be informed that we have a client who wants to proceed with the copyright ownership of the same logo design symbol for the trademark that you purchased from us and using. You purchased this logo first and used it for so long that's why we are approaching you first to retain its copyrights/ownership right to secure your logo. We have no objection to providing him the logo with full copyright ownership; however, if the new buyer registers it as a trademark, you may no longer be able to use the same logo legally anywhere. Presumably they'll just keep doing it because why not?
