Im honestly astonished! I was such a curmudgeon when first starting the Hanzi Movie method. I dreaded doing lessons and loathed the forced creativity needed to create memorable movie scenes. The ability to read has been a critical component in learning Spanish and Italian. I never thought I’d be able to do the same for Mandarin. I had resolved myself to just being illiterate. However, I appreciate every one of those scenes now. They’ve allowed me to do what I couldn’t even fathom doing 3 months ago. I can Litterally read those interesting squiggles now! I even find myself seeking out characters when I’m doing listening comprehension exercises as they help me obtain a deeper sense of the meaning of many words, even English ones. Like 目的, eyes target, goal… like of course!!! I’m so excited to keep going!
