A corporate policy does NOT override state and federal law. If they have a problem with their own policy, that is their problem. The franchise has the power to change it; it's not our problem. Certainly not one that should cost us financially. They took hundreds of dollars from me over 6 months while I called and emailed countless times, only for them to boldly deny it ever happened. Instead of helping, management hid their employee contact info, refused to give me their employee IDs so I could officially complain, and made a poor clerk at the front desk call to handle it. They offered an ultimatum: they would cancel my membership as a "courtesy," but they were going to keep my money. It was that or nothing at all. I told them I'm not the one to play with. I had to do all the research on my own, but I finally bypassed the local gym entirely, emailed corporate, got the policy canceled, and got my money back. Those hundreds of dollars may mean nothing to someone who owns a local franchise, but it's a lot to everyday folks living check to check and supporting themselves and families.
