Yelp is not a reliable reputation source, doesn't vett reviewers and allows fake reviews.
When a platform allows questionable reviews to remain after credible evidence is provided, it undermines confidence in all reviews on the site, not just the disputed ones. My concern with Yelp is not whether businesses receive positive or negative reviews, but whether the platform consistently verifies that reviews come from actual customers. In my case, a review was posted by someone located thousands of miles away from my service area. After I reported it and provided details showing the reviewer could not have been a customer, Yelp removed the review. However, the same individual posted another review shortly afterward, this time simply claiming "I hired this company," and that review remained visible despite the same underlying concerns. This experience left me questioning how thoroughly Yelp investigates disputed reviews and whether businesses receive fair consideration when there is evidence that a review may be fabricated. A review platform is only as trustworthy as the accuracy of the reviews it publishes, and I expected a higher standard for verifying customer experiences.
