Warning: paid seat selection through Expedia does NOT guarantee you’ll sit together. I paid an extra $222 through Expedia specifically so my husband and I could select seats together on our round-trip flight to Edinburgh. What’s not clearly disclosed anywhere in the purchase flow: this only lets you pick from seats that are already free — it does not guarantee two seats together will actually be available. The charge also didn’t appear as an itemized line item on my receipt, so I couldn’t even point to documentation of what I’d paid for. On our return flight, no two free seats were left together. The only way to sit next to my husband was to pay ANOTHER $90 — for the exact same thing I thought I’d already paid for. I called Expedia and asked for a refund or adjustment. They refused. I called the airline, who said the fee was collected by Expedia, not them, and sent me back to Expedia. Expedia then told me the original charge only covered free seats, no guarantee of togetherness — leaving me stuck between two companies with no resolution. If you’re paying extra for seat selection through Expedia, know exactly what you’re buying: it’s not a guarantee, and if seats run out, you may be asked to pay again for something you thought you’d already covered.
