TruStage Insurance Agency

TRUSTAGE LIFE INSURANCE COMPANY

So apparently, sometime last week or the earlier part of this week, Trustage found itself under a cyberattack. An attack that they have neglected to inform their customers about, an attack that has hacked their systems so severely that they've had to shut everything down to figure out "HOW BADLY" they were hacked, and an attack that is bleeding over into the financial info they have on us as customers. According to part 2 of the cyberattack (via email), a company pretending to be The Ethos Team sent me an email this morning that states, "your policy will remain with Trustage, but we here at Ethos will be taking the monthly premiums until Trustage has rectified their internal systems issues". I immediately got suspicious because the phone number listed on the email is a California (415) number, and on the other end of the phone were 2 foreign-speaking gentlemen with a whole story concocted about how Ethos was helping Trustage, how the systems were down, and how the payments (our premiums) were gonna be going through them at Ethos now. Still suspicious, I contacted Trustage and was met with resistance, silence, and a customer service rep who needed to put me on hold to tell me his name! I asked that my call be escalated to a supervisor so that this issue could be handled. I was on the phone for nearly 20 minutes with "Seth" denying me access to a supervisor, refusing to transfer the call, and telling me that a supervisor was going to have the same info that he did. My point is this, having worked in operations and the cyber world for over 25 years I was attempting to let Trustage know that our data was cyber-hacked and now the company is about to deal with an attack within an attack if it wasn't made known to the appropriate people to help stop it and that our financial info may already have been hacked as hackers have sent out emails pretending to be a reputable insurance company and have attached a phony business phone number to the email/scam. I, as a customer of Trustage with several life insurance policies, feel that Trustage should have let us know what was/is going on sooner than us finding out via some scammers' email that our info has been hacked. Trustage, you have truly let us down as customers, failed to protect our info, and it's obvious that you're going to wait until you fix the issue before you let us know what happened, how you found out, how you fixed it, and assure us that nothing like this will happen ever again.
