BookRetreats is a great site. They make it easy to pick where you want to go/choose what you are looking for or just explore options/dates of retreats all in one place. I use bookretreats for all of my retreats.

Deceptive Advertisement of Being "Yogi's"

I feel compelled to share my experience to warn both retreat facilitators and prospective guests. I have been leading wellness retreats for 28 years and have pioneered several retreat formats that are now commonplace. I am sought after for my transformative retreats because I lead with radical honesty and a deep desire to help people. I have never experienced anything negatively comparable to my interactions with BookRetreats. I have only edited this because BR's flags all real reviews for deletion and twists the truth in their responses. I left BR's, they did not delete my account. Now, I acknowledge my part in one incident that contributed to our disagreement because that is how I live my life and why I teach yoga. Unfortunately, I did not experience the same level of honesty and accountability from BookRetreats, despite their advertisement of themselves as "yogis." I often say, "Whatever brings you to church, brings you to church," and I hope that, in time, they will understand the principles of yoga while fiercely pursuing the financial profits from hard-working yoga teachers leading retreats. I had 2 weeks to relocate my life and establish a new retreat center after the Los Angeles fires. Just one week before my first retreat there, the city issued a water contamination advisory. Rather than cancel or expose guests to potential health concerns, I rented a larger, more upscale home a few miles away outside the affected water district. During that retreat, one participant disclosed after arriving that she had been untruthful on her intake forms and was actually a police officer on leave after being diagnosed with severe PTSD. By the third day, she was severely uncomfortable meditating and chose to leave early. She then fabricated an untrue account of events to BookRetreats in an effort to obtain a refund. At the time, under the stress I was already experiencing, I did not believe a refund was warranted and felt personally offended. BookRetreats declined to hear my side of the situation, so I deactivated my account and ended our relationship. Looking back, although the venue change was made solely for guest safety and resulted in a nicer property, I later realized I should have simply refunded her based on that. That is something I can acknowledge today. About a year later, I reached out to apologize for that difficult period and explained that I had sold my retreat company, WellBnb. My role had changed from owner-operator to solely teacher and trainer, while my team organized and produced the retreats. Unfortunately, my experience became even more alarming. BookRetreats initiated unprofessional and negative accusations, and telling my new business partners and students that they needed to sever their relationships with me in order to use their site. One of my students quit because of the flip-flopping, accusatory emails from them and blaming our US team for not being available for a phone call during European business hours. Their "Head of Finance" falsely accused me of directing someone to send money to me without first verifying that my email address was linked to our business Zelle account. She never apologized for that. On our AZ I AM profile, we maintained a 4.98-star rating with all 65 reviews being five stars. Our newer WellBnb profile also received outstanding reviews with a 4.98 rating, which I will post so that BookRetreats cannot paint a different story. BookRetreats is a marketing and booking platform, not the operator of the retreats themselves. Retreat leaders deliver the experience. BookRetreats advertises themselves as "a team of yogis," in order to encourage users to place their loyalty with them rather than with the independent facilitators who invest the expertise, time, and resources to create these retreats. They instill fear in users to communicate with hosts. For example, we had a guest who arrived panicked with anxiety, refusing to drink a welcome elixir (afraid that she was going to be drugged) because she stated that BookRetreats told her to "be careful of new hosts." This leaves retreat hosts to de-escalate unfounded concerns and starting retreats with an unnecessary disadvantage. Anyone involved in personal growth knows that healthy relationships require honest communication, humility, and mutual respect. And every business encounters difficult situations and customers. I certainly have learned from mine. However, based on my experiences, the clearly negative actions towards me, and false accusations, I wouldn't advise anyone to invest their business with BookRetreats; they are solely interested in their profits while harnessing the loyalty of users in any way possible, without sincere regard for your business or finding positive solutions.

I booked this retreat last minute as I was overwhelmed and burnt out from work and life circumstances. I've never done a retreat before so was nervous and quite hesitant to go ahead with it. I've been practising meditation for years. Experienced some very traumatising life situations. And have a tendency to get into bad places. The support I received was amazing from both Alistair and Rose. The meditation practices helped me process things that I have been burrying under the surface. I felt safe enough to release and process things. And I actually learned how to rest properly. All of the other people on the retreat where so kind warm and friendly I was completely in awe of other people's kindness. I've gained skills that I can practice in the world to help keep me grounded and for this I am grateful. I would highly recommend for anyone interested in authentic, grounded practices that help one to remain balanced in day to day life. Truly grateful for Rose and Alistair. Thom

I Got My Mojo Back!

I thoroughly enjoyed my recent visit to AZ I AM Detox Yoga & Meditation 5-Day Resort in Taos, New Mexico. I can honestly say I got my money's worth. As a result of this retreat, I discovered that I have indeed got my MOJO back. Prior to my stay, I was very depressed, confused, and fatigued (emotionally, mentally, and physically). Now I feel recalibrated, rejuvenated, and energized! This retreat gave me what 10 years of therapy and antidepressants alone couldn't do for me. I feel so blessed and fortunate to have found this retreat.

I personally am quite disappointed with my experience here. Originally, I made a booking with Hilltop Hotel at Phuket. All of a sudden, I received an email from the hotel telling me that there would be a cancellation without a detailed explanation. As I am about to set off in half a month, I have to make another booking with another hotel. My feeling is that customers are not quite respected in this case. I wish a more detailed explanation could be given. Thank you!

Being clear about cancellation and payment terms re individual retreats

Good and the website and bkg coy were helpful. Wasn’t initially clear that the bkg coy received deposit as payment then the rest managed by the retreat hence the generic statement re.cancellation policy meant I needed to clarify with the retreat. Ie it’s a 2 step process which is a bit awkward Once the retreat clarified I could make a decision Maybe bkg coy could keep individual retreat policies online so it was clearer

The agents (I've dealt with quite a few) of Bookretreats are friendly and eager to assist. Despite some small hiccups, during a second booking experience partly my fault, they have overall been very accommodating, kind, understanding and helpful. Please note if you, as the customer have questions and receive assistance during a chat, please take note : get all the information you need first time round. You will speak to a different agent and will start from scratch, every time you make contact. They have no idea what transpired with previous chats or enquiries. Overall I still feel it will be unkind to give them less than 4 stars. So from my side. Thank you sincerely.

An excellent Kung Fu retreat in Corfu. Thomas is a thoughtful, considerate teacher who takes a lot of time to explain, correct, and share not only the practice itself but also its history and background. Everything was very well organised and clearly communicated, the food was excellent, and Thomas and his family were incredibly warm and welcoming. A high-value and genuinely special experience.
