The Old Lighthouse

Last summer, my friend Tom and I went to a small island with our families. There was an old lighthouse near the sea. It was very old and a little broken. The walls were white but dirty, and the windows looked dark. The weather was cloudy, and the wind was strong. The waves were loud. The place looked scary, and many people said the lighthouse was haunted. I am a curious person, so I wanted to see it. Tom was different. He was kind, but he was afraid of old places. He told me, "Maybe we should not go there." I smiled and said, "Let's just look. Nothing will happen." We walked to the lighthouse together. When we opened the old wooden door, it made a very loud sound. It was like the lighthouse was saying, "Go back." The inside was dark and dusty. There were old chairs, broken boxes, and many spider webs. We started going to upstairs. Every step made a noise. Suddenly, we heard someone’s talking. Tom became very scared and wanted to leave, but I wanted to find out what was happening in there. When we reached the top, we saw an old man sitting there. He fixed the light. He looked and smiled to us. "Don't be afraid," he said. "My name is Mr. Harris. I take care of this lighthouse." Tom looked surprised. "So there is no ghost?" The old man laughed. He told us that many years ago a storm damaged the lighthouse. Sometimes the light turned on and off because the wires were old. People saw the strange light and started telling ghost stories. While we were talking, the weather became worse. A fishing boat was coming close to some dangerous rocks. At that moment, the lighthouse light stopped working again. "We have to help!" I said. Mr. Harris tried to repair the light, but it was taking too long. I found a flashlight, and Tom helped me to climb to the top. We used a flashlight to show the boat the safe way. The light was like a small star in the dark sky. The people on the boat saw our light and turned away from the rocks. They arrived safely at the harbor. Everyone thanked us and Mr. Harris. After that day, people stopped believing the ghost stories. They understood the real reason for the strange lights. The old lighthouse was not a scary place anymore. It became a place of hope. I learned an important lesson that day, we should not believe every story we hear. Sometimes the truth is much simpler than people think. If we are brave and help each other, we can solve many problems together.
