I've seen a lot of economy simulation games and this one might be the most in depth. It reminds me of another of my favorites, EVE Online. This one has some real world education to it and does a good job of forcing the player to make real decisions rather than other games that only give you a few options. I wouldn't worry about the Pay-to-Win since this game is really more about education.

The most realistic and most detailed business simulator game. There is no better opponent on the market! I'm playing it for about 3 years now. Give it a try, play the starting competition against the people who started right the same time like you and set yourself some targets, try out some strategies, analyse the honey pots and get yourself going! One of the best business simulation games available. Complex production chain, which is great. You can work retail, manufacturing or services. Regular realms run one turn a day, so your life doesn't have to revolve around the game if you don't want to. But even so, there are plenty of stuff to do and data to analyze for your life to revolve around the game if you want to. Cons: needs more active players; free to play is rather limited (but still feasible and fun if you're not hoping to be number one on rankings); could receive more care/attention from the devs/admins (forum has year old spam and special deal is months old).
