Appalling and Useless Piece of Kit

I've had my Onyx Boox device for several years now. What a horrible pice of expensive (yes it is expensive) kit it is. I have a Microsoft One Drive cloud account. I set up a folder in that account to sync all the local work I do on my Onyx Boox. It does NOT sync!!! The contents of the folders on the One Drive do not sync down to the Onyx device. THERE IS NO LOCAL STORAGE ON THE DEVICE!!!!!!!!!!! On the home page there is an option called "Storage" You can click it but you WON'T FIND THE FOLDERS AND DOCUMENTS IN YOUR CLOUD SERVICE, THAT YOU HAVE LINKED TO, ANYWHERE TO BE FOUND. This piece of rubbish does NOT hold your work locally, so if you are out and about where you don't have access to your network, you can't open the documents you need that are in your Cloud folder!!!! There is another option on the Home Page of the device called "Notes." Once again, it does NOT sync with what you have in your Cloud folder that you have linked the device to!!!!!!!!! It should download what's online in that folder to somewhere local on the device - THAT'S WHAT SYNCING IS!!!!!!!!!!! But it doesn't do that. The manual is Zero help, and you can't even copy and paste items in your cloud folder (or even anything local) into the "Notes" or "Storage" local sections. Massively expensive for a product that doesn't do what it's supposed to do. Sure you can create a document on it, but even that is not straightforward. There are LOTS more negatives to be said about this appalling device, but enough said. You should avoid it like the plague!!!!!!!!!!

Onyx Boox Note air 4c - rubbish company and product

I bought the Onyx Boox 4 air from the Europe shop. After a few weeks of use the device suddenly became faulty. It was completely unresponsive. It would not respond. There was no way to reset the device. I reached out to Boox and have been exchanging several emails. They seem to have a week-long of public holidays (which I have never heard of) and response was extremely slow. After weeks of chasing they eventually asked me to ship the device to Poland and asked me to indicate a value of $70 for customs. I used DPD to send the item. Dpd promptly returned the item to me as I didn't declare it to have battery. So now I am out of pocket with £35 but I accept that is my fault. Looking at alternatives there is no way really to ship this device without being taxed etc to the repair centre. I am really disappointed with Boox. I thought initially I had a great device but they have been very unhelpful. They won't swap the faulty device. Won't help really with arranging shipping or any supper as such. Just simply emails when they feel like responding. I wasted around £600 on a device that is now just a paper weight. I do not recommend Boox as a company. Please don't use them their service is rubbish and I do not recommend them at all to anyone.

Boox Tab X C - Dead pixels, what to be expected from Boox

Found several dead pixels on my Tab X C - reply from Boox: Unlike LCD screens, E-Ink screens operate by manipulating pigmented polymer particles sandwiched between two layers. The top layer is transparent, reflecting light directly back to your eyes, while the bottom layer contains electrodes that arrange these particles into text and images. This technology is specifically designed to provide a paper-like reading experience, which significantly reduces eye strain. It is important to note that variations such as bright spots, white spots, or "dead" pixels can occur with this technology. These are not uncommon and are indeed found across E-Ink devices. According to the guidelines provided by the E-Ink Corporation, the pixels displayed in your device fall within acceptable operational standards. For your reference, we have attached the E-Ink company's screen standards documentation. This outlines what is considered normal variance in screen quality. We understand that you may not be satisfied with the pixel. As compensation, we are more than willing to issue a partial refund of €40 for you if you can kindly keep the device. Please let us know if this would be OK for you.

Useless, unreliable and not fit for purpose.

After spending approximately 30 hours learning how to use the device, much of which were dedicated to testing the split-screen feature that I bought it for, I discovered that this function is only partially available and not in the format that will be essential for my particular use needs. Moreover, notes, although saved, have disappeared and cannot be retrieved. I have referenced Boox help, Boox dedicated tutorials, Google and other information. Boox manuals don’t seem to match the version purchased as there is no Firmware facility on this device, which is all very confusing and whilst I am fully computer literate and I actually enjoy problem solving tech issues this is beyond what is reasonable. I have contacted Boox support via their feedback channels at least twice in writing and followed their instructions to the letter. In brief, they advised me to update to the latest 4.1 app but after following their instructions the app did not appear. On contacting them again – another 24 hour wait - they have stated that: ‘We are sorry that we have not received information on when the non-beta firmware 4.1 will be available. However, when the firmware 4.1 is available, your device will receive a notification, and you can update the firmware immediately’ They have suggested I make a video for them! Overall, the device’s functionality is not as advertised, it is unreliable/ severely limited without extensive technical knowledge, overly complex, with poor usability. the Boox AirNote 4c in my opinion is not fit for purpose and does not meet the reasonable expectations set by the manufacturer’s advertising and description. I suspect the consumer is being used as a guinea pig to test the product. It is a rip off and not worth the very expensive price tag. Useless!

E-ink Screen litterally broke from just laying on a table. Unfortunately i only discovered the massive amounts of people with the same problem after it had happened. Not even 6 months old and not a scratch or dent. Boox claim that it is due to physical misconduct as with all the other cases. Stay away from this shady company

Disappointing Refund Experience After Returning Product

I really wanted to love Boox — I admire their products and even bought a second device through Amazon. But my experience with their official store (shop.boox.com) has been extremely disappointing. I returned a BOOX Go Color 7 tablet (order total: $267.49 USD) after UPS failed to deliver it on time. The package was returned to Boox on June 6th, and I’ve been waiting for a refund ever since. Boox claimed they would deduct $49.51 USD from my refund, without ever clearly explaining the fee. They said it was related to return shipping and handling — even though: The original order included free shipping The return shipment weighed just 1.8 lbs The UPS return shipping quote was only $18.49 USD Despite multiple emails, including polite and formal requests for clarification, they refused to explain the fee breakdown. Worse: after a few responses, they completely stopped replying. I submitted formal complaints to: The FTC (Federal Trade Commission) The Better Business Bureau Econsumer.gov None of these actions resulted in a resolution so far. This lack of accountability and transparency is not acceptable from a company that sells globally. ⚠️ If you are buying directly from shop.boox.com, be very cautious. If anything goes wrong with your order or you need to return it, don’t expect fair treatment or timely support.

I have only had my Boox Palma 2 for a couple of months and suddenly I noticed the e-ink on the screen is damaged. I had the protective case on it at all times, and have always been very careful to look after it. ONYX claim this was caused by physical damage and tell me this is not covered in the warranty. They are refusing to pay for the repair, so it means I have to pay hundreds to send it to them and get it repaired. Don't bother buying one.

Arrived with dead pixels and wrong case was sent

I purchased the Boox Go Color 7 Gen II from shop.boox.com, and the experience has been nothing short of frustrating. The device arrived with three dead pixels: two white-out dead pixels and one blacked-out dead pixel near the centre of the screen. The blacked-out dead pixel is visible while reading and even on sleep mode, making it impossible to ignore. To make matters worse, they also sent me the wrong case. When I reached out to Boox support, hoping for a reasonable resolution, their response was dismissive and unhelpful. They only addressed the white-out dead pixels, completely ignoring the blacked-out one near the centre of the screen — which was my primary concern. In their email, they stated: "The white spots on the screen are within the quality standards provided by our screen supplier, E Ink Company. While we understand these spots can be noticeable, it is important to note that screens with white spots not exceeding the specified size are considered acceptable by the supplier's standards, and are not considered a defect or quality issue." They went on to say they couldn’t guarantee a replacement would be free of dead pixels and refused to offer a proper exchange, claiming the device had "no quality issues." As compensation, they offered a laughable $15 partial refund on a $495.30 order — a completely unacceptable response. Adding insult to injury, they told me I could return the device for "personal reasons," but only if I agreed to pay a restocking fee. On top of all this, the battery drains rapidly — something I initially thought might be normal for this device, but after checking with other users, it appears it isn’t. This entire ordeal caused me so much unnecessary stress that it disrupted my sleep. Boox’s refusal to acknowledge legitimate faults in their product and their dismissive, deflective support has left a terrible impression. I would strongly advise against purchasing from Boox. Save yourself the headache, frustration, and money — buy from a company that actually stands behind their products and treats their customers with respect.

Missing Pen2 Pro and Frustrating BOOX Support - Learn From My Mistake!

PSA: The Pen2 Pro (with the eraser) does NOT come inside the tablet box. It should be a separate item in the packaging. This is something I wasn't aware of. Hey everyone, I wanted to share my recent disappointing experience with a BOOX order and their customer support, hoping it serves as a warning to others. I recently received my BOOX order which was supposed to include a premium stylus pack with a Pen2 Pro. The outer packaging was intact, and the tablet box inside was sealed, containing a standard pen. Inside the main box, there was also a scrap of torn packaging that I now realize likely belonged to the missing Pen2 Pro, but at the time, I dismissed it as packing material. Because I had a pen and an intact tablet, I assumed everything was fine. It was only later, after discussing pen features with a friend, that I realized the standard pen I received wasn't the Pen2 Pro I was expecting. Upon contacting BOOX support about this missing Pen2 Pro, they responded with a lengthy list of requests: """ Please provide information. 1, Is the outer carton intact? (which there is a shipping label with a tracking number on it) 2, Is there any sign of removal of the tamper-proof label (pls refer to the attached picture)? Is there any sign that other parts of the outer box have been opened and re-pasted? 3, Is the zipper carton intact? 4, Is the device box intact, and does the device box have a plastic film? Please provide photos. 1, A photo of all what items you have received (including the accessories, instruction book, the boxes, etc). 2, A close-up photo of the shipping label with the tracking number: (on the outer carton) 3, Photos showing all sides of the outer carton. Especially the damaged parts. 4, Photos showing all the tamper-proof labels. 5, Photos showing all six sides of the device box (one showing top and two sides, another showing bottom and opposite sides) 6, A close-up photo of the warranty card with Serial Number (generally 14 digits) 7, A close-up photo of the S number and M number or similar (please refer to the picture below) """ As someone who had previously recommended BOOX products, this rigid and demanding initial response, especially for a missing item that should have been straightforward, has completely eroded my trust in their customer service. I wanted to share this so others are aware of potential issues with missing accessories and the kind of support hoops you might have to jump through.

AWFUL

I got the onyx box after reading seeing some good youtube reviews. Honestly it's one of the worst devices I've ever owned. It crashes pretty regularly. Even basic things like syncing and transferring are awkward or just don't work. But the real issue is the design. Just basic things are so badly thought out. On the note pad, if you move the icon bar to the right, it opens again on the left. The default options make no sense, you can remove some icons but not others. Theres totally different drawing interface, depending on what app you open. The stylus needs to constantly be recalibrated. When you highlight something it has colour options on a black and white device. On the notepad, entering and sizing text is just totally unintuitive and broken. I work in software and I have seen student software that is better than this. People are complaining about all these things and theres no OS updates. You can see by how many similar devices they release that they don't know what they are doing. Release a small amount of devices and make them work. Don't keep releasing beta devices. Absolute crap. Stay away.

Happy Boox customer

I bought three Onyx Boox devices so far, Note Air 2 in 2022, and Tab Mini C and Palma in 2024. All thee of them work perfectly, they're versatile, and I never encountered any issues with them. I carried them in a backpack during commute on bus and bike, both in original and off-brand cases at times, and nothing funny happened to them so far. Even the NA2 performs just like new after 3 years of use.

Ordered an eReader from the UK store

Ordered an eReader from the UK store, was unhappy with the quality and tried to return it. UK distance selling regulations allow me to return an item (so long as it hasn't been damaged or significantly used) without penalty. Company tried to charge me a re-stocking fee (which is illegal in the UK). I would suggest they understand the UK market rules if they're going to continue selling to the UK. Reader was pretty poor which is a shame as I really wanted it to be good quality but as it failed as a book reader in the first instance, the other benefits are moot.
