DO NOT BUY FROM THIS SITE

Purchase some item over a month ago and still cannot get a refund or replacement. I NEVER received these items. I have been emailing them and keep getting an automated response saying that they are investigating. DO NOT BUY FROM THIS SITE. Customer service is the worst. Update: 25 April 2024 After emailing almost everyday, I finally got back my refund. Thank God.

Devices good, customer service terrible

I bought a Tab Ultra (B/W). It served my purposes well (notetaking and reading), and being eink, I liked the long battery life. Then I dropped it and cracked the screen in December. I've been trying to get it repaired ever since. They don't post a phone number or answer customer support emails (Trustpilot won't let me post the email). They changed repair facilities; I sent my device in for repair, and since customer service wasn't responding to emails, I contacted the new repair facility, icarerepair in Howell, MI (Trustpilot won't let me post the website). They said I had to contact BOOX directly. It's a Catch-22. BOOX isn't responding, and the repair facility won't comment. I like the device, and I wish I could get it fixed and get it back.

Beware of potential for bad customer service

A narrow escape today when I realised that the customer service from this company is bad to the point of danger. I realised when finding that sales web pages are easily loaded whereas any support or warranty info pages either do note load or are very vague in content. Small print, for instance, says that after 30 days, costs of transportation for warranty repairs "should be shared". Fortunately I stopped the purchase of a £500 Note 3C when I became ware of these problems, and a visit to TrustPilot confirmed that many buyers have been stranded without support and have apparently been badly treated or worse. I cannot understand why Youtube reviews pile praise on thees products and ignore the many bad reports from customers. In my opinion it is only worth taking a risk with one of these products if provided by your employer, or if/when a reliable UK retailer takes up a relationship with the company. I would love to try one, but CAVEAT EMPTOR applies big time here!

The Emperor's Clothes

I purchased this item in January 2024, after watching a number of YouTube videos and reading some positive reviews. The company offer a 30-day money-back guarantee if unsatisfied, an offer that I took up after just a short time with the device. A major selling point of this E-ink tablet is “absence of distractions”. What this actually translates to is a device that is incapable of offering the functionality of a mainstream tablet, such as the iPad. Clever marketing attempts to insinuate that this is some sort of a bonus, since it allows you to focus on a specific task more easily. This is pure nonsense. The device runs a version of Android that is two steps behind the current OS. It is slow, clunky and the colours are horribly washed out. The hand-writing recognition is good but really no better than an iPad, the latter far more powerful in every respect. The NoteAir 3C comes with a basic stylus but I bought a bundle that included a cover and an enhanced version of the stylus, costing 50 and 80 Euros respectively. Having used the basic stylus that came with it, I did not bother opening the enhanced one. It is ludicrously over-priced, in my opinion, as is the very poor quality cover. If the device were priced at around £100 then it would be reasonable value for money. At over £500, it is in Apple territory. Yet the company have no pedigree, there is no guarantee of longevity and other reviews mention screen issues cropping up within a few months that the company will not fix under warranty. So I decided to return the device. The company seem to make this as difficult as possible: I had to email my intention to return, waiting for a response for over a day. The company said they could find no record of my purchase at first. Then I had to send in photos of the item and wait another day for a response. Finally they sent me a shipping label but attempted to charge a restocking fee. I pointed out that this was against UK consumer legislation for distance purchases but they argued that it was in their terms and conditions. They finally relented, however, though insisted on charging for shipping in both directions as part of the return process. A wait of 2-6 weeks was mentioned – for them to check the device (!) – then a potential further seven working days before I would receive the refund. In total I exchanged 25 emails with the company in an attempt to expedite the process. Ultimately I had to raise a dispute with PayPal, following which I finally received payment. The email responses from Boox were polite but asked for “patience” and “understanding”… not the most professional of requests in the business world. So, as the title of this review suggests, I really think this is a case of the Emperor’s Clothes. There is nothing that would cause me to recommend this device in terms of functionality or build quality. The company – based in China – have no apparent respect for UK consumer law either. Spend your money instead on a reputable product from a reputable company.

Device not usable in professional environment

I bought a Boox Tab Ultra to improve my productivity. Installing Lookout For Work, it has detected the following thread: the device is rooted ==> unable to access to my company portal and apps (Office suite included) ==> 600€ useless purchase. Onyx techs have proposed a new FW, but still rejected. The device is quite nice to use, but I strongly advise to have a look at Samsung or Apple tablets if you are a professional user

Nice devices, bad warranty support

Very nice devices, but awful customer support. I absolutely love te e-ink performance, and the fact that you can load any Android apps. The system is updated with security patches regularly, and their sync services (while clunky sometimes) are very generous in the space they offer. That said, customer support is TERRIBLE. It took me months and getting my legal insurance involved for them to accept my device for warranty. After the "fix" the issue returned, and the company stopped responding to my emails again. If the customer support would have been better, I would likely have upgraded to the latest model. But as it stands I do not trust them enough to rely on them as a device vendor. In case boox reads this review: - To be trusted in the EU, you need to stick to the laws - If you can't handle the support, make deals with 3rd party vendors that specialise in it You could be GREAT for people that like e-ink. But your customer support only reinforces the stereotypes of the dangers of ordering things online from abroad.

Awful and deceiving practice towards customers

I purchased a device with accessories and wanted to return it after it was sent out. The company claims that they cannot find the returned package and keeps replying with an automatic replay asking me to declare the package as lost by UPS (basically asking me to lie). UPS records say that the package was successfully returned to the sender months back. They launched an investigation about the package and sent a claim to Boox, but Boox refuses to show me the results and keeps telling me to make a claim to UPS that the parcel was lost (it wasnt). All the while I already returned the device but I am not getting my refund. (750+ Euros)

ONYX BOOX charged my 3 times!!!

I wanted to buy a BOOX Note Air3 C from ONYX BOOX. The on–line shopping process was devastating. The shop charged me 3 (!!!) times, despite the fact I was clearing the shopping cart after each unsuccessful order. Also, every next charge was larger than the previous one. Do not ask me why, I have no idea :). Anyway, I had to cancel my last order, as well as previous ones, because I lost my confidence in ONYX BOOX, after 2 unsuccessful attempts to buy an e-reader from them. To add to my poor shopping experience, the refund took me about 2-3 hours of negotiation with the shop (most of my emails were returned with "noreply" flag), and 3 days for the funds to be returned. To top up this marvelous User Experience, ONYX BOOX returned me only part of my money, as $54 dollars were lost through the conversion rates! So, eventually, I lost time and a couple of zillions of my neurons with these crooks, got minus $54 and got no tablet. That's my UX with ONYX BOOX!

Clunky device, bad refund process

Bought a Boox Tab C through the EU store. Even though the are required to accept returns within 14 days (and claim an even longer return window), the then charge restocking fees and postage. The return process itself took weeks to complete. The tablet looked and acted like something that would have been revolutionary fifteen years ago. I was so looking forward to it, but the processor is slow and the interface looks antiquated. It was like watching a former favorite TV show on an old VHS tape. I understand why I was hoping for a good time, but it does not happen. Neither the device nor the company can be recommended. Two stars only b/c after several weeks the finally refunded at least most of my money.

Purchased my item 17/4/2023 (onyx Tab…

Purchased my item 17/4/2023 (onyx Tab Ultra), it was posted out to me on the 19/4/2034 and stated it would take 3-5 working days. By 26/4/23 it was obvious item had not arrived. Contacted Boox Service Team (BOOX Help) on 27/4/23..no response. further update requests made on 28/4/23 and 4/5/23 with a reply on 4/5/23 apologising for non response and asking me to contact THEIR courier Royal Mail. They also stated the following, "Please kindly note that we will only arrange a reissue or refund after we have received proof of loss from the recipient or the claim has been paid by Royal Mail. Thank you for your understanding and cooperation." May I add that through this period, their OWN tracking website only showed that the package was out for delivery. No delivery or signed for update shown on the site). This is still the status till today as I type this. Royal Mail have confirmed in writing non delivery of the item and I submitted the letter to the seller. The seller then requested I continue with the lost item process at which point my patience completely ran out. I have now been forced to submit a chargeback request for my money via my bank and I am looking to purchase a similar product from a competitor. Steer well clear. Awful experience Regards Chris D

Boox Onyx Tab X

Review for Boox Onyx Tab X I purchased late 2022 shortly after the new Tab X and Tab Ultra were released. Disappointed with this model compared to similar but smaller and less expensive Ultra. The case/folio is flimsy junk. The pencil does not magnetically stick to the case (again unlike the Ultra) and instead held in a flimsy loop in the folio. And unlike the tab ultra does not come with a keyfolio, built-in keyboard, but instead you have to supply your own. So the only advantage to this is that you’re getting the A4 size screen and in every other way it’s inferior to the smaller and less expensive tab ultra. It should be the other way around. I got the X because i had to have the big screen for my aging eyes to read sheet music otherwise i would have gone for the Ultra. To fix, they need to have all the same accessories and features as the Ultra for the price of the current X.
