Reviewers overwhelmingly had a great experience with this company. Customers frequently mention that the website is extremely easy to navigate and allows them to find clear travel options effortlessly. Travelers find the online booking process to be smooth, efficient, and straightforward, enabling them to complete their ticket reservations in just a few minutes.
However, some customers also noted that they were charged unexpectedly high fees and steep markups compared to booking directly through the official train operators. Some reviewers were dissatisfied with a perceived lack of transparency regarding service charges and hidden costs discovered after completing their purchases.
I booked an exec class ticket on train that was already full (I checked the actual train line). How is that possible? Have not received a ticket, of course, and no communication (train leaves in 4 hours as of this writing).
20 minutes after I wrote this review I received a full refund from Rail Ninja. Grazie
When searching for a round trip ticket, the system "could not find" the second half of the trip because trains apparently do not run in Norway on Sunday. A helpful message to change the dates of travel would be good.
Also, not sure why my invoice receipt and booked tickets need to be in separate emails. I think it would be better to acknowledge the sale, and then once the tickets are booked, send all documents.
The ordering process was straight forward but it would have been good to have seem more clearly that I was, at the point of purchase, not ordering via Norwegian Rail (in my case) early on. I only saw from the URL that I was on a different site to pay.
Plus an indication of what Rail Ninja fees were going to be above and beyond the ticket price early on.
As I have not got a choice in my travel (I can't switch to a different and cheaper ticket agent) the ticket price is not just the charge of the rail company but the charge of the rail company+ the booking charge. ie the total cost to me.
Looking at the Rail Ninja logo the masked face is appropriate as not all is clear to see.
EDIT (April 2023): Updating to 2 stars. Their tickets are actually more expensive than buying directly from the carrier. Their schedules are inaccurate as we discovered on the day of our train that a lot more trains were available than just the one per day previously shown. They were a bit flexible in providing us with a 50% refund, but only after a big email exchange and they still sustained that it was not their fault when it was their website that displayed incorrect information. Will not use it again.
It was really easy to book the trips! I really enjoyed being able to select my seating preferences, and the whole process was straightforward. I got the tickets around 30 minutes after confirmation!
Paid 170€ for a ticket from Osaka to Tokyo which price at the station and also stated in the ticket was 100€. Thinking about starting my own online train ticket agency now as I can see the profits they can get out of people who do not know the original pricing in foreign countries. I guess I need to mention that service was good and fast besides the issue of paying 70% extra.
On Jan 27, 2023 we purchased from Rail Ninja 2 tickets on Renfe from Madrid to Seville for Mar 23. When the invoice arrived it showed only the total price in CAD which converted to E 235.2. When we downloaded the tickets the price per ticket was E74.95 or E149.9 for 2.
We asked RN to explain the difference. All they would say is "taxes and our fee".
Twice as much as booking directly with the national train lines but allows some guarantee of train times in advance. Jasmine from customer service is helpful and nice
Update: Rail Ninja finally refunded my purchase thanks to Jasmina's help. I initially gave one star but I have given three now that they have fixed it. Annoyingly, it's almost half the price to book directly with the Norwegian rail lines but they only take reservations 60 days in advance so you risk not getting the train time you need. Here's my original post: I tried to book two adult train tickets and two children's tickets but the children's ages selection box only offered up to age 5. I paid for 4 adult tickets because there were possibly limited tickets available for the Flam to Oslo trip. I found out later the same day that I could book children's tickets for up to age 9. Rail ninja would not refund the difference or allow me to cancel my tickets. It's corrected now on their site but feel that I should not have to pay for their website issues. Customer service only offered a voucher but it's not something I would be able to use in the near future.
Will refund less than 50% only use if absolutely in your control
Very easy to use and navigate and book, but if your trip gets cancelled by no fault of yours (airline cancelled my flight, new costs were 3x the price) they will not refund you! They will refund less than 50% of your booking. So a rip off and I won’t use them again personally.
Train from Bucharest to Constanta on 20221230. Everything was in order and I was able to take the train, however, I won't recommend using rail ninja. Their charge was 33 euro, but if you book directly with the company or at the train station it was only 16 euro. Next time I will do my research better and not use this website.
Our trip Dublin to Belfast on 12/19 went well. However , you sold us tickets for a return trip on 12/26 Belfast to Dublin for a 10:30 departure. When we arrived at Lanyon Station it was closed as the trains were not running due to Boxing Day. Two good guys gave us a lift to the bus station where we were able to catch a 3PM bus to Dublin. However we missed our plans in Dublin for the day as we didn´t arrive till 700PM
It wasn't the rail company's fault....it was the riders'. Many outright stunk. The car had an offensive odor and then they turned on air circulation which made the car overly cold....but better to be chilly than put up with the stench.
However, I'm not convinced the First Class railcar on either of my trips were truly First Class since on the outside of the car it was labeled "economy" and the layout was completely different than the railcar labeled First Class. I guess my question is what makes it "First Class" in this instance compared to the "Economy" section?
Whereas I did get tickets easily and did get a refund promptly I now see two issues:
1- prices are exorbitant
2- if a train is cancelled bc of a strike (not unusual in Spain), Rail Ninja will cancel and refund ticket HOWEVER is you book directly with Rail (RENFE) they put you on next available train autoMatically. A very big convenience which wd did not get and the upshot was a terrible experience trying to get to our destination later after the strike.
