The follow through a pretty good for 1on1 classes. I find the learning progression quite quick and the teachers really do a great job at personalizing lessons and pace. Heavily recommend
Thank you for your recommendation💛 We’re glad to know that you enjoyed your 1ON1 classes and made great progress with us. We wish you all the best with your Chinese learning journey!
I just finished a month studying at that's mandarin Shanghai and I can only say I honestly do not want to leave. From start to finish it was an excellent experience. The teachers and the whole staff are very welcoming, kind and warm. I will definitely come back. The facilities are always clean, the location is really convenient as well.
Thank you so much for your kind words 😊 It’s wonderful to know that your month at That’s Mandarin Shanghai was such a memorable experience. We’re glad you enjoyed your time with our teachers and team. We hope to see you again in Shanghai!
Responsiveness: extremely fast. I got a response within hours of my first inquiry. That's Mandarin always answered my questions promptly and followed up proactively. And always very friendly! Full service: for someone who doesn't have much time or local knowledge, That's Mandarin was able to help not only with setting up classes, but also with visa questions and accommodation. There was someone from school to welcome me at the serviced apartments to help me check in, show me how to use apps, and tell me where I could get groceries. When I wasn't sure of my Chinese level, That's Mandarin helped evaluate it and had me test different levels to ensure I was in the right place to learn optimally. Teaching: I had 3 rotating teachers, each with their own personality and style. I found it fun and beneficial to hear different speakers. I signed up for group classes, but soon ended up alone in my level, and so experienced 1:1 lessons (time cut in half). I liked both. In groups you can role play and learn from other students (and have time to absorb things quietly), but the pace might not be perfect for you. In 1:1 the class is tailored exactly to your level and you get a ton of speaking practice, but the class flies by very quickly. Materials: That's Mandarin has a full set of their own teaching materials, I used Nihao Cafe almost exclusively (much more than the physical books). I liked being able to listen to the words and videos. The online exercises were great because they include listening practice and provide feedback whether I answered right/wrong. "Negatives": the school is quite expensive, though I think it is comparable with other private language schools and it delivers value. Just be prepared when you ask for a quote. If you are price-sensitive, it may be better to invest the effort to search for accommodation yourself. In addition, the school organized "extracurricular" activities less frequently than I had hoped (maybe 2x per month while I was there) and they sometimes cost extra.
Thank you so much for sharing such a detailed review😊 We’re very happy to hear that you had a positive experience with our team, from the first inquiry and level test to your classes and accommodation support. It’s also great to know that you enjoyed learning with different teachers and found NihaoCafe’s listening practice and online exercises helpful. We also really appreciate your understanding and honest feedback. We’ll continue working hard to improve our services and provide an even better learning experience for our students. We’ll also keep your comments about extracurricular activities in mind as we plan future activities. Thank you again for choosing That’s Mandarin and for learning Chinese with us. We wish you all the best in your continued Chinese learning journey. 祝你中文学习越来越好！

Extremely kind and good teachers. All of the other staff members are helpful and warm too. I like that the classes for the intensive course have teachers with different styles, keeping things interesting. The classes focus on talking, which helps me to correct my grammar as I have learnt some mandarin with family. There is also room in the classes for learning more colloquial mandarin and learning about cultural aspects of language too. Highly recommend :)

I only have two weeks of vacation and wanted to go to Beijing to improve my accent. I spent time researching and contacting several schools. That's Mandarin School responded quickly and answered my questions thoroughly. In terms of learning content, I learned vocabulary and grammar through conversations from the textbook and videos, with the lao-shi explaining things in an easy-to-understand way. Moreover, there's Nihao Cafe, which is a very good platform. During the lessons, I tried to understand the grammar structures. I didn't need to spend a lot of time taking notes because all the information was available on Nihao Cafe and could be reviewed later. I made the right decision to apply to study here. Thank you for your friendship and help.
Thank you very much for your wonderful feedback💛 It is our great honor to have been able to support you, and we are happy to see the progress and gains you achieved during your time here. Also glad to hear that our NihaoCafe platform has worked so well for you throughout your learning journey We wish you continued success and steady progress in your future Chinese learning journey!
Studied at That’s Mandarin in Shanghai and honestly, it’s been one of the best decisions I’ve made this year. The structure is super well thought out. Classes move fast enough to keep you engaged, but not so fast that you get lost. I also liked how practical everything is. You're not just memorizing vocabulary, you're actually learning how to speak and function in real-life situations from day one. The teachers are excellent. They're patient, encouraging, and very good at explaining things clearly (even when the grammar gets tricky). I definitely recommend That’s Mandarin Shanghai.
Thank you so much for your kind and thoughtful feedback💛 We’re truly delighted to hear that your experience has been so meaningful and rewarding. We’re committed to creating an immersive Chinese-speaking environment where learning blends naturally with daily life, and we’re glad to know you’ve made such great progress. I’ve had a great experience at That’s Mandarin! This is my 4th time doing an intensive course in China and I have to say that this school’s online platform is the best! All the teachers are incredibly kind, patient and supportive. One thing that I especially appreciated is how they rotate teachers frequently, which helps students get used to different speaking styles rather than hearing just one voice. The lessons are structured yet not rigid, so we laughed a lot?! The school also offers a lot of fun and educational activities and the whole environment is super welcoming. I am sad to leave but already planning to come back in November!
Thank you so much for your kind words! Sasha💛 We truly appreciate your recognition of our teaching. We’re always committed to create a supportive environment where every student feels encouraged to grow. Rotating teachers is a key part of our approach, helping students build confidence by adapting to different speaking styles and real-life communication situations. It was such a joy having you with us, and we can’t wait to welcome you back in November for more learning and fun👍
I’ve been learning part-time at that’s mandarin for 4 months. And so far it’s been great. The teachers are very helpful and the online materials to review and study are also great.
